|
|
Hi guys
I know that there have been previous discussions about this issue, but I would like to hear from people who have been abroad recently and used their "international"Korean bank cards.
I have a debit card with the Visa logo on from Woori Bank as well as a Master credit card from Samsung.
I have used my Woori bank debit card to pay for some of the hotels, but this seem to be a hit and miss situation. Sometimes it works and sometimes the hotel website will just gives me an error message. Whats up with this?
Since we are going for 3 weeks and we are a family of 4, I wouldn't like to walk around with so much cash on me. I am just terrified of getting to the ATM and the cards doesn't work. |

Mine works but only during KOREAN banking hours (not on the weekend!). I bank with Shinhan. It's convenient for work but not for traveling. Maybe that should be their slogan. Business hub of Asia, my ass.

Upon arrival you will transform into an ATM machine. The only way to prevent this from happening is to head straight for Kho Sarn road and avoid all Go Go bars. Have a good time. Don't know about how well your card will work and wouldn't trust the dork working in the bank. Best to at least bring some Cash/ travellers cheques. |

I recently went to Bangkok and Pattaya for 10 days with 1200 American dollahs in cash, you'll be fine - hotels have security boxes. |

I have a VISA from Woori bank as well. I was told that in order for my card to be used abroad, I would have to go to the bank and tell them about my travel plans. Where I'm going. How long? etc. |

I have a Visa from Woori bank and it seems to work just fine for US purchases and paypal.
I also have a Samsung American Express and used it abraod without any problems - withdrew money and swiped the card |

My co-teacher called regarding my Nonghyup card and they assured me it would work in Thailand. It of course did not.
Anticipating this, I went to KEB and got an international card. It worked great. I love KEB. |

Hmmm, keep hearing great things about KEB. Wish there was one in my town. Instead, I have to deal with the usual Nonghyup runaround. I just wire money to my Canadian bank and go online and put it on my Canadian VISA card. This way I'm covered and I can bypass the Korean runaround. |

My KEB global card works at ATMs but I cannot use it for purchases in stores or hotels. Weird. |
