What the heck? When fishing, why not throw out as many lines as possible...?

Are any of you working in an adult hakwon now?

If so, any jobs going to come open there in the next couple of months?

I figure college gigs are out at this late date, but if anybody knows different firsthand, I'd like to hear from you too.

I'm leaving for Korea next week and will be looking in person.

I have a lot of experience in Korea and TESOL. The highlights are here:

For in-law family reasons, I won't be taking a position south of about Andong or southwest of Taejon. I am going to try hard to land in Seoul or its suburbs.

My mother-in-law is in Wonju and I'll be taking a position within reasonable travel time to there...

Anybody...???....

Yeah, you're probably too late for uni/college jobs unless someone just doesn't show up and they need someone on very short notice. But that's very much a "right place/right time" kind of thing, not something you can depend on.

I think one of the adult hagwons would be the way to go.

A couple months ago, I started with emails and applications to most of the big chains that have adult hakwons. About two weeks ago, I emailed individual YBM adult hakwons. Nothing so far.

Early on, one in Seoul offered a deal, but they were only giving 200,000 housing allowance and no key money. I passed.

Have you considered applying at any or all of the post-secondary institutions in Wonju? While I realize that the hiring season is now over, I know that for the beginning of the next semester, i.e. in March 2010, Yonsei U., Sangji U. and Halla U. will all be hiring, and Wonju College might be as well. Until then there are plenty of hagwon jobs open in Wonju, though I only know of children's academies currently hiring.

Thanks.

I have seen Yonsei Wonju advertise here for a position opening next Spring, but right now, that is too far from Seoul for me. As I've mentioned elsewhere, now that I'm going back to Korea for at least a year, I want to do something I've had a strong desire to do for a fair number of years - do some work with NK and NK human rights-related NGOs. I've done a tiny amount here and there via the Internet, but not much, and I don't want to give up on that goal until I feel I've exhausted the effort in getting a position in or close enough to Seoul that travel time would not eat up a lot of the free time I will have to do such volunteer work...

I definitely have Wonju in mind as a Plan B or C or D. But I'm going to work on my Plan A for at least a few weeks once I'm on the ground...

Just work in a kiddy hogwon in Wonju. I bet you that's what you end up doing anyway. Laughing
