Crikey! I was under the impression it was engineered by a massive air rade on Hawaii!

6 million Asian civilians were murdered by the Japanese, who believed themselves to be superior to other Asians. In China alone, between 2 and 3 million were killed. In general, people were killed as an example to others who might oppose the Japanese occupation.
That said, there's no reason at all why modern-day Japan - and all other rich, civilized states - shouldn't build nukes in order to protect their national sovereignty. |

Except many analysts and historians feel that it might spark a arms race with China. For a historical parallel look what happened with the U.S. when the USSR acquired the atomic bomb. That eventually led to a massive arms race with each side beefing up its arsenal to (at one point) where either could have destroyed the world a few times over. |
