I recently got a speed of 4.7MB per second downloading a torrent file. Couldn't believe it! Very Happy

And their websites host some of the largest number of viruses.

Korea has fast connections to their credit, but they are lagging behind in other areas. Almost all countries are moving towards Linux and Firefox. Internet Exploder and Windows are the way of the past, and much vulnerable to viruses.

Very true. I love the speed out here, it's amazing, and I can't believe how cheap it is for what you get. Truly a digital nation...

...however the web design in the country reminds me of when people used to think AOL *was* the internet. Websites are poorly coded and made optimized for an outdated version of IE using Active-X and a good number of my Korean friends computers have so many viruses and unwanted add ons they run like a good old 486.

I'd love to see the countries internet design catch up to the 21st century, where it's internet speed and usage already is.

I'd love to know which ISP is the fastest here. I am capped at precisely 10 megabits (1.25MB) down and .7 megabits (.1MB) up.

So, there is software that can make the internet explode. Laughing

Word. I was also excited about this prior to coming, but I'm stuck at a measely 10mbits too. Granted I pay about 1/4 of what I did for my 10mbit connection back at home, but it is still a downer.

Fastest internet in the world and its kind of useless to a majority of Koreans now...

because their internet infrastructure (that was installed in the early 1990's) is run completely on ACTIVE X...

hence most Koreans are doomed to use Windows XP forever - if they want to play their computer games and use their "Korean programs"...

and soon Microsoft will stop giving updates for XP - because XP is past-history - so their computers will suffer badly from virus-attacks...

most of their programs and games do not work on Windows vista or Windows 7...

simply because their SUPER fast internet was built entirely on Active X.

Its gonna cost them a fortune to upgrade their internet system to keep up with the rest of the world who are using Vista and Windows 7

Ya, it's nice for sure. Hit my max this afternoon, 9.4MB/s downloading XTools off the Apple Developers website.

The size of this country has a lot to do with it too. Certainly the mountain folk of West Virginia and the moose shooting, helicopter flying people of Alaska need 25 mb/s internet connections. I do hail the internet here, but whats the point of ultra high speed if downloading movies and pornography are illeagal? In major cities across the world are speeds are adequate for the law abiding citizen.

Instead of working in kiddy hogwons and complaining about Korea every other sentence, why aren't you designing websites for Koreans?

You're brilliant! Laughing
