Has anyone had any luck with these places? I took a pair of expensive dress shoes to a 'Moneysworth' in Canada once and they wanted 40 bucks to replace the heels. I'm curious to know if this service is any good and if it's a while-youy-wait thing or a come-back-later thing.

They do a good, quick, relatively inexpensive job.

Even at the "better" places, they can be too cheap and quick. My wife replaced the heels on some expensive leather boots once and they slapped on some really cheap heels that don't match well. We're talking the whole heel... not just the tips. She also freaked-out because the guy wadded her $400 leather boots and turned the inside out like a sock, in some fashion. She gave him holy heck for it, too.

In short -- you probably need to be careful what work you allow them to do, or at least know exactly what they will do. Replacing high-heel tips on womens shoes, or heels on guys shoes are no problem. Gluing a sole that's coming off is no problem.

Korea is the land of quick and cheap over quality.

I'd sooner take them to an expensive shoe store, ideally one that sells the brand that needs repairs, and ask them for advice.

Shoes are your primary means of transportation; why not pay extra to make sure the job is done right? Especially since you said the shoes are expensive.

Please note that I made an edit above... meant to say that replacing high-heel tips is no problem.

i agree. If you want a quick fix that will tie you over, they will do it quick and cheap as you sit there. If you want a quality fix, better go to a more pro place. I myself have gone to the street kiosk fixers twice... the first one did a terrible job, so i took it to a second one. He kept trying to give it back half done, but after i gave it back to him saying 'an-yo' about 5 times, it was done fairly well.
