| I can't believe it could be that difficult. Why not get a job, come over a few weeks before her, and then find your gf a job around where you're working? If you're waiting for a recruiter to see your resume and rush to find you a job at Happy English Camp with a big new 2-bedroom place you're never going to get anywhere. Get up and be a bit more proactive. |

| Public schools are so overrated. It's kind of like the stock market. Little risk - little return. |
This is a gem! |
What I meant by that is that I have yet to find a public school that is paying me what my hogwan currently is. People go into the public schools for security. It's definitely not for financial gain. It might take a while to find a good hogwan but once you do you can negotiate yourself a pretty good gig in the long run. With a PS you are pretty much stuck with the run of the mill contract. |

Seriously, why would I want to "make more" in a hagwon that could fire me at any moment, that won't pay out severance, that doesn't pay for my apartment or the furnishings or a plane ticket...?
I'm not saying you can't get screwed around with in a public school, but I've been here 3 months and I've already seen 3 people get fired from hagwons for no reason other than the director didn't want to pay them.
Security is important, and you may think of "financial gain" as only what you see in your paycheck each month, but I bet I can manage to save as much money as any person working in a hagwon. Maybe even more. |

Alright guys, a few things...
When I apply through recruiters websites, I actually fill out the forms separately. I generally post on Dave's together. Also I generally weed through the job listings on this site and post together. Do you think that I should I be doing it all separately (including specific couple listings)?
Also, when I write to recruiters about our housing and school situation, I try to be as flexible as possible. I always say that we are willing to work in separate schools, and actually this is our preference, because heck we know what it's like to work with couples. It can suck. All that I request is that if we are in separate schools, at least one of us receive a housing allowance. We'd be willing to get two separate apartments with two different schools and just live in one of them, but we've been told that schools hate that and we'd have to keep our relationship a secret?!
For our location preference I typically say our preferences are 1. Greater Seoul 2. Southeastern coast 3. Anywhere else in the country; and we're willing to work in all three .
And we have been looking at other countries, but as has been said, the money is just not the same. Japan and Taiwan seem comparable, but we feel those markets are tighter than SK.
My tactics obviously aren't very fruitful at the moment, so it's time that I find a new angle. |

| I would say go for what another poster or two said: whoever gets the first job, well, you both go there and look for a job for the other nearby. You guys aren't married, and it would likely seem odd for conservative Korea to view your relationship as such (by putting you in the same apartment or workplace). |

Doubtful.*
* And I'm not trying to be a jerk, kabrams, but some people [several of whom frequent this website, and many more that don't] working in the private education industry make a considerable amount of money. |
