For those who have brought a guitar with them, what type of case did you use for the flight? I am thinking of using a regular hard case?

It is a good guitar but not great, but I like it and would really like to have an instrument with me while I am in korea. I am also wondering if it would be more practical to just buy an instrument in korea...that would save having to buy a hard case/travel case and the extra cost of having an extra piece of luggage.

Are there many decent guitar shops? I am probably going to be in Deagu.

There are plenty of inexpensive options in Korea for a guitar. Guitars are constantly appearing on the Buy/sell forum on this site. Or, you should be able to find a decent acoustic at Nagwon Market (in Seoul) for under W200,000. Plus, when you get ready to leave Korea, you'll be able to sell thus enabling you to recoup some of your cost while providing a deal to a newbie.

Sorry, don't know what there is in Daegu for music shops...though there's probably something.

I laughed at that video, because my Canadian friend flew Canadian air and had his banjo RIPPED APART to search for drugs. No note. No nothing. He found it in two pieces. They weren't even careful about it, and you could see where they pried it open without a care.

That video was rich but the story of it, found on Wiki, is fantastic.

"Nevertheless, the incident was said to be a public relations humiliation for United Airlines;[6] The Times reported that four days after the song's release, the company's share price "plunged by 10 per cent, costing shareholders $180 million".[7]"
