SMOE can blow! I am extending my middle finger as high as it gets towards those low-rent Smo-rons right now. Anybody want to join in? It's fun! |

I'll spill the beans. I have finally received a contract for a teaching job in Saudi. I need to scan a signed copy, email it to my British recruiter and then start the visa process.
I wouldn't say I'm showing GEPIK the middle finger, but to say bye bye to them will be nice. No more co-teacher, no more open disrespect from our dear work colleagues. |

WTG! If more qualified, experienced teachers ditch Korea, maybe they'll take the hint. And for you personally, hope you have a productive gig. |

That's what happened last economic collapse. It was more a case of qualified teachers abroad looking for an overseas job saw how bad Korea's ESL market was on the Internet and stayed away.
The difference this time around is -- the global economy is down. The last collapse in Korea, the US job market was still pretty good. |

Have never met anyone who has permanently left Korea for a job anywhere in the Middle East. Everyone is back after a year or two. The grass is always greener...
Hope you have a good experience, though. Yes, Korea can be a frustrating place to work.
Keep us posted. |

from the UK:
If you are starting in Saudi in September you will most likely be entering the country on a business visa. If you have not already done so, I BEG you to clarify this point with your recruiter and please do a search on the Saudi forum so that you are making an informed decision. Best wishes. |

BAHHHAAAHH!
If you think that Korean students and work colleagues show you disrespect...just wait until you get to Saudi.
I've never met anyone who's said otherwise...although I suppose they are out there. |

Changing the business visa to an Oqama greatly depends where you work; if you work for a school that is ran by a member of the Royal family, you might be able to just go to Bahrain while the prince sorts things out for the visa transfer back in KSA. Without an Oqama, you won't be about to get health insurance, a bank account, a cellphone account, a permit to live on a compound and most importantly an exit visa. Also, the business visa is similar to a tourist visa here, it is only for short term stays. |

Bragging about getting a job in Oman? Get back to us in about six months. You'll be begging to be back in Korea.
What amount of money would it take for me to work there for a year?
At least 200,000 U.S. dollars. That's the price I would put on losing one year of my life. |

How much does the job in Oman pay? I know it's crass to ask, but I really am interested in doing something else as I'm bored with Korea. It would be cool to base in or near Europe. What qualifications did it require? |

Ever been there? Didn't think so? Know where it is in relation to other Saudi countries? Or why it's different? Like 8 week's paid vacation? Want to travel to Africa? India? Turkey? Or do you just sit in front of your TV in your tiny room, one hand on your soju bottle, the other on your... |

Same. About $2500. Same qualifications. Less alcohol. Food's not as good. Apartment's better. |
