I have this week off school. My school is quite generous, they gave me and the other native the week off school, in addition to our standard paid vacation time (GEPIK).
During the semester, I often long for a break from work. When I finally get some time off, I realize I prefer to be at work most of the time. Why?
It keeps me busy and occupied.
When I'm not at work for a period of time, I realize how empty my life is.
I feel a bit lonely during vacation time and I start to think about finding a new wife.
Do you prefer to be at work most of the time? Do you realize how empty and lonely your life is when you're not at work? |

No. If I can have it my way I wouldn't work another day in my life again.
Your mentality fathoms me.
Sure, sometimes I get bored, but nothing sucks more in life than having to work. |

Grasshopper, you must learn how to transend the physical realm through ingestion of mozzerella sticks. |

I hear you OP.
Not having a regular routine in Korea can be quite upsetting. It's not really a hang about and chill out type place. It kind of feels like those days of being a bum back home, watching Tuesday morning Oprah re-runs, toying with the idea of another bowl of cereal. You feel like you should be doing something more exciting with your free time, but everybody else is caught up in the wash of living their 9-5 routine. What to do? Books are expensive, everybody is working.... mah.
It wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't this compulsion to make the best of your free time. |

I know how you feel. When I'm in school I long for a break, but when school's out, I get bored fairly quickly!
Why don't you go traveling around Korea a bit? Check out some sights. |

If I didn't have to work again in my life, I'd be happy. Unless it was my life's passion. Then I'd be happy to work. But so far, I haven't found what that is and teaching in a public school in Korea as the only foreign teacher I find to be boring at times but oh well, it pays the bills.
I know it's kinda hard to leave the country and vacation even though we have time off with our teaching jobs so I find things to do in Korea. I love salsa dancing so I do that 1-3 nights a week. I barely did any back home but the last thing I want to do is stay home on a weekend night in a foreign country so I hit the clubs. I have great friends who I met through it so we have dinners, hikes, etc. together. We cook together too. I also have taken up writing recently so I'm devoting time to that. Really have some good thoughts running through me now that I want to take down. I'm thinking of studying for my TEFL next so that should keep me busy too. Last, I got a dog. He definitely beats the loneliness blues when I get them.
This is the time to do everything you didn't have time to do in your home country because you were too busy working your butt off. I know it is for me. Find out what your passions are if you don't know and pursue them. |
