I have a crappy Toshiba notebook that I purchased a little over a year ago which needs to have its dvd drive replaced. I would just buy an external dvd drive, but that would leave me with one major problem. I have a ton of viruses on the computer from when I forgot to clean my flash drive after putting it in a work computer, and I need to reformat my hard drive. Unfortunately, the bios on my computer only allows booting from the hard drive or the internal dvd drive.

Anyways, I took the notebook to get fixed at the computer repair center in Haebangchon, and they wanted 170,000 won for a new dvd drive. I told them no thanks. This price sounds insane to me, but I really have no idea how much a notebook dvd drive costs. For desktops, they usually run 30-50,000 won.

Does 170,000 sound insane? If I can't get this fixed for a reasonable amount, I'll just scrap it. I have a perfectly decent desktop for which I can replace parts if they break down. I mostly just want the notebook to use at work.

I'm sure pretty much ANY notebook drive will fit in the machine - I believe there's only one screw holding it in. Pick one up off gmarket - you'll figure it out.

Dvd drives for laptops aren't that expensive. the most i've seen for a used was about 30k won or new 60k won. Just look for your model on auction.co.kr
