Once I figure out anything about my own bank here (KEB) I will be back to learn more from Mister Slick.

Yeah, that branch in Itaewon is full of jerks. I tried to get an account with an international Visa debit card and they told me that foreigners can't get one. I went to the local branch in my podunk town and the guy told me he can't give me a credit card. When I explained what it was that I wanted he said no problem and wanted to open an account right there. Next week on my day off, I will switch from Woori to KEB.

What I don't understand is that they think that is the only way we can get money out of the country. What's the difference in withdrawing money from my account, exchanging it at the airport and spending it overseas vs. using a debit card? It still leaves the country, and I still lose money on the exchange rate.

Is the site where you buy and trade in English? Also, do you happen to have a link that says it's possible, or a number of someone I can talk to? I'd like to set this up too, but I'm expecting a fight.

Also, were they being real jerks about it, or is it possible that they were acting purely out of innocent ignorance?

I know some people have had luck with their KEB branches, but the one in Dunsan, Daejeon is horrible.

I've been much happier at SC First.

According to the rep I spoke to, they will have an English site up in the middle of September on which you can buy and sell funds online. Now it is in Korean.

KEB claims to cater to foreigners with their expat banking and crap, but their CS SUCKS....ESPECIALLY KEB itaewon. Their reps are idiots. Every time I went there, my boil literally was boiling.

Can I open a bank account with just a passport at any of these KEB branches?

They also asked me for my ARC. I have heard from another poster that it has been done without an ARC, but I don't know for sure that that is true.

Ah, I see. You used the word "literally" exactly the opposite of what you meant. As if you wanted to assign the definition of the word "figuratively" to "literally." Good one.

OP,

Personaly, I don't think the "nationalistic" lady bank teller gives two poops what you choose to do with the profits on your ESL salary investments.

Your negative attitide towards Koreans I think is jading reality for you.

Are you a foreigner? Have you ever tried to deal with Korean banks?
