Anyone familiar with JeongSang Language School. Please share!! Very Happy

Good hours?
housing?
paycheck on time?
nice staff and directors?

Specific locations would be nice too.

Didn't work there myself, but from what I've heard it's used to be a great place... used to be.

I'm not saying it's not good enaymore, but I mean it all depends where you end up because in the recent years they started opening up a lot of branches. Also, they've cut down on a lot of good stuff for the foreigners and Koreans. So, now, it all depends where you end up.

At least, you know they won't close down because the main branches are making a lot of money. You shouldn't worry about getting paid on time; I doubt that would ever be an issue with them.

Nice staff and director? Again, it depends where you go. It's just like back home.

heard it was a good place to work before, good pay and paid on time BUT when I read their advertisments before they always charge a higher tax rate on your salary (5% plus IIRC)

As a current instructor at JLS, I can say Ive been more than pleased with my experience (and this is coming from someone whos worked in the often-touted public school system). Contracted working hours are 30 per week though in reality you usually only work 19-20, staff is helpful and never antagonistic, and there have never been any problems with pay or living arrangements. My only gripes would be those typical at any other hagwon: a somewhat monotonous curriculum and a small percentage of students who arent very motivated learners and thus a headache from time to time. Also, the tax was changed to the standard 3.3% as of Feb 2009. If you have any other questions let me know.

Thanks for the feedback! It's been helpful and encouraging.

Now I just hope I get a reply back on my resume. If I sent it on friday ( 2 days ago) how long would it take for them to respond. I havent heard anything back but maybe thats because its the weekend and their office is closed...Do they usually tell you if the position has been filled? I dont want to sit and wait if thats the case

I'm thinking of calling them even tho its long distance since I'm really interested in the position

I think theyd get back to you either way, to let you know if the position is filled or to extend to you a phone interview. The good thing is that JLS is not franchised, but rather directed by a main office in Gangnam. This makes the experience at any of the 10+ branches in and around Seoul pretty standard. Good luck!

That's good to hear.

Are the offices open on weekends? What's a good time to wait to expect to hear something back... Did you deal with Lois, the HR manager, or someone else when getting your job?

Lois..She handles all recruiting. I dont think the main office is open on the weekend, but not 100% sure. Id give it at least a week or so before you receive an email back.
