I'm at an elementary PS in Busan, in a rather poor area.

A YBM teacher comes in and teaches 4 afterschool classes everyday (1.40-4.20, no breaks). I've been asked to be the primary teacher for Thursdays - for 250,000 a month. There will probably be 15+ students a class. I'm meant to do a 'recap' lesson, testing the YBM material - but I will probably need to make decent lesson plans.

This term I'll only be teaching 13 PS lessons a week.

What do you guys think?

I've worked out it's around 14K a lesson! I thought the standard rate was at least 20K (wherever you are) so I'd need to ask for 350K.

There shouldn't be a problem not doing it - I'm under no obligation - a few people will lose a bit of face though. I'm rather hesitant about asking for more money... but I'm sure I should be worth more. How much do students pay a month for such classes?

Any advice appreciated.

Ask for 30k a class and if they can't do it, decline.

Even with a light, weekly class load (I'm jealous by the way... LOL) and within regular hours, you're crazy if you work for (I'm assuming you will be paid by) YBM for 14K/class... especially with no breaks between classes.

I was teaching 4 classes a week for over 800000 a month last year in school time. Kids finished their regular classes at 12:30 and two days of the week I would do two 40 minutes classes. That was about 50 bucks a class. What the frig is YBM doing in your school? If I only had 13 classes a week I would want some extra classes at at least 30000 a class.

definitely not worth it

You would be doubling your teaching load for a month and receive 250,000won. Even for 350,000 won, it doesn't seem worth it.

Let YBM get rich (richer) off someone elses labours. 14K an hour is an insult, make them pay they can afford it.

Yup, thought so. I will ask how much the kids are paying for the classes, but if they can't pay me around maybe 400k then I'll decline it.
