It needs to be pointed out to Koreans more assertively that everything they have that makes their country 'modern' comes from the West. They accomplished nothing of significance over their long past. Only with the arrival of Western science, technology, medicine, liberalism etc. was Korea able to pick itself up out of the squalour. Everything they have - ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING - is a gift from the West.
Sometimes I wish I had a magic wand so that I could wave it and let modern Koreans see what their life was like before the arrival of the despised foreigner.
Modern Korea is more a Western success story than it is a Korean one. |

They would likely been mired in communism without our help. A puppet state of China or Japan. But there is something to say about their hardwork that has taken many of our industries and improved them. The Korean Auto industry is doing wonderful, unlike most western ones. The semi-conductor idustry is also superb and some of their computer stuff. Also the LCD's produced here are great too. They are excelltent at product innovation, just give this country time and one day there could be revolutionary invention too. And maybe they will sucessfully deploy a satellite without anyones help or technology. |

I respect their hard work and advancements in a lot of the world's industries. Goodie for them.
I just hate when the flag starts waving and the Woori Nara group talk about Korean superiority of anything. They'd be nowhere without the west. We don't need to keep reminding them, but they don't need to bite the hand that fed them. |

Thats very similar to the USA chant. So many times I go to the States and meet Americans and they say it is the best country. I ask: where have you've been (other countries)? Answer: no where.
Koreans are very proud. And that can be annoying, considering their faults. But so can Americans, considering their faults. |

Koreans aren't very creative as a whole (I blame the schools) but they sure know how to improve stuff. Not many things were invented here but a lot of things were perfected here. |

The Japanese economy was the same for a long time, not really creating new products but copying and improving on products from the west, as someone said, it's only a matter of time before this happens in Korea. |

That's right, what will probably happen in Korea is that some minds will start creating original work. Let's just say any society, any country that is given the keys to the Kingdom (i.e., advanced technology) will invariably start thinking for itself. That's human nature not Korean nature. If you went back in time with an ipod in your pocket, it would be a revolutionary event, and it would completely transform the world. It's like walking down the street and seeing a bicycle for the first time. |

I didn't say USA. I said 'the west'. A lot of other useful items were invented outside the US.

I really don't see the point in doing that OP, why make them feel even worse about it? They know. Deep down, they know. They probably tell their children that uri nara invented everything, and how great they are, but when the kids are old enough, they learn the truth. Heck, they complain more about their own country and their own people than they do about anyone else. |

These threads wouldn't happen if Koreans weren't so, uh, 'proud' and in your face about it. You will never see people in China, Japan or even goddamn Mongolia doing the uber-nationalist crap that Koreans do.
Koreans need to relax, stop this rubbish, who cares? God, you know the guy in the bar that can't get a girl because he is insecure? Herro Kolea... |

Replace 'them' and 'they' with 'blacks' and you might be right. Oh wait, can't say that, now can I? Pretty sure those dark fellas "know".
Which semi-intelligent person does not complain about their country? You see that silver spaghetti sauce-stained kitchen sink of yours, and that head (you might see it in a mirror, it resembles a chestnut), well, put them together, real quick like, and then come post inane rubbish again - don't forget to use electricity, either, buddy! |

Gotta agree here. Everybody complains about everything.
It's fun and makes you sound like you know something. |
