One thing I've noticed this summer is a style that seems really trashy. Button up shirts which are pretty thin and as a result see through and a wifebeater underneath. I don't know why, but this bothers me for some reason. Why go to all the trouble to put on a nice set of pants, dress shoes and a button up shirt when the shirt is see through and I can see your undershirt? It seems like wearing a t-shirt with a fake tuxedo front would be classier.
If you have a really thin button up shirt, why not just wear a full undershirt? |

In 2004 I was given a really thin, basically see-through, button up dress shirt by my boss. I wore it a few times (when I'd been a bit late on the laundry..) but felt a little uncomfortable that students could see my nipples (and the ring contained therein). Some guys may be down with this style, but, for me, it's awkward. |

seonsengnimble - I am an American, half Italian and I resent this topic with all my heart. I beat my wife atleast 3 times a week and consume enough alcohol during that time to drop a rhino. |

I think Europeans (or some) wear wife beater T shirts. Koreans like following the Euro trends. Maybe. I don't know if that's the answer, but rest assured that not all people wear/follow American styles.
I have a couple. But I don't have any see through shirts - and I don't sweat that much. Thank God. |

Korean nipples are very dark and are much more visible through shirts. |

I'm European and I've never seen anyone younger than 50-60 years wear a wife beater at home.

I'd rather see the undershirt than the nipples - for men at least.
Women, fee free to go without. |

I always thought that was what the wife beater was for-as an undershirt. In fact, it only becomes a "wife beater" when worn by itself. Actually, it bugs me more when I can see the sleeves of a full t-shirt. It just doesn't look right. |

I have seen many an adjumma go without, it is like looking at two 3 day old flapjacks with a solitary raisin placed on each, pinned to a wall. |

The thin see-through shirts are amazingly comfortable in summer weather.
Since most Koreans don't use Air Conditioning at home (at work is fine because they dont' have to pay the bill), its perfect clothing to stay cool. The wife beater offers the most comfort in hot weather. Wearing a full chite cotton T-Shirt under the thin button up sorta defeats the purpose of trying to stay cool. |

Too bad they are one of the few things on the what not to wear to work list or I'd be sporting them everyday. The kids would respect me a lot more too knowing what to expect from a man dressed like that. |

I hear ya, but the reason Noth Americans wear full cotton Tshirts underneath their 100% pinpoint button down, starched oxfords, is so that their sweat doesn't leave yellow stains on their expensive shirts at the armpits.
I think |

When I was working in a 72-degree office, I might've seen the OP's point. But where I work now, some co-teachers keep their rooms stupidly hot. In July/August in Korea I will wear an A-shirt under a dress shirt with no remorse. |
