I was hoping to depart ASAP. How realistic is it to be gone by 1st of October do you think? I have my transcripts; police form apostilled and degree scroll.

Am hoping to be anywhere near Seoul really; hopefully Anyang or Sanbon or somewhere like that.

I have applied with TigerEnglish because their flights are prepaid for you; are many recruiters like this or do most of them require that you pay for the flights yourself first and are then reimbursed?

You're Irelander #4 this week asking a similar question. You've applied. If everything goes at normal pace and you get a job, then yes you'll be Korea around Oct 1st. However, that's Chuseok Holiday time. It'll be so hard to get anything done.

Ya, Andrew is right. If you got a job right now, October 1st is doable.

But getting the job might be your only hindrance. Be in too big of a rush, and you'll get a crappy job. Do you need to leave by October 1st, or just would like to?

Once you find a school, it can take up to a week to work out all the details, get the contract signed, etc. Then you send you stuff to Korea. It take anywhere from 1-2 weeks to get your visa issuance number.

I don't think the consulates are that busy anymore, so when you send your stuff to Korea, go ahead and make your appointment for about 2.5-3 weeks later so you should have you stuff by then. When I applied for mine, they were backed up over 2 weeks. Luckily, I wasn't in that big of a rush. The consulates take about 1-2 days to process your visa.

Getting a job isn't that easy anymore. We are currently in an economic depression. The market is flooded with unemployed people from the west.

October 1st is doable but you'd have to get on the case quickly (I'm aiming for the same). There aren't huge amounts of jobs out there at the moment so it is a bit more difficult. Realistically, from speaking to recruiters, you'd be better waiting until the middle of the month or towards the end of October as there should be more available for then.

I got an email from a recruiter saying job postings are 50% down and that the market is saturated this year. She reckons there are ten applicants for every posaition so schools are being a lot more picky about who they hire.

She reccomended that I don't be so adament abou wanting to go to Seoul. Do you guys think it should be Seoul or nothing? Are the other six cities she named any good? Im hoping to be placed as near as possible to two other friends who are travelling at the same time so I suppose our chances of that would be better if we gave up on Seoul; wouldn't it?

If you are three friends who like to hang out, I would suggest you give up on Seoul. Even if all of you got in or around Seoul, that could still be a 1 hour subway ride one way if you live in opposite directions. Now, if you are three friends who get together once every couple (3-4) weeks, you could keep trying for Seoul, but there are more chances in the other cities.

Yeah Im starting to think your right. Think Im going to give up on the Seoul dream and aim for Busan maybe because am anxious to go as soon as possible. Although I hear Busan can be pretty competitive too.
