So I have tried to find a post about what people have done after ESL teaching in Korea? What careers have you or people you know gone into? Has anyone had difficulty finding a non-teaching job with ESL teaching on your resume? Just curious... |

This has been on my mind quite a bit lately; I'm leaving for daegu next week (fingers crossed) with a long term goal not related to teaching. Needless to say - i'm a little conflicted.
I think it is important how you choose to present your experience, many fields would view international experience positively. There are alot of 'soft skills' gained.
I'm hoping to turn a year or two in korea into lower student loans (!) and some form of entry level counselling/psyc assessment position, and ultimately further education. I don't think teaching in korea is going to hurt, but I also realize it isn't going to get me any practical experience that will move me a step above an 'entry level' spot.
I'd be interested to hear what the OP is asking; what have people done after teaching? |

Haha, I don't know what people do after Korea but in 200 days I'm looking forward to doing anything as long as I'm not in this country.

| I'll be getting married soon enough. (I practically already am, without the ring and paperwork) So by that logic, there will be NO after ESL. There will be ESL until I die here. |

| Well if you don't want to teach forever you can learn Korean and get into another field here. |

We ESLers usually end up starting a pot farm, become a porn star, slang crack, or work a crap job.
Or, we return to Korea.
Seriously, this is what i've seen. Havn't seen any major career success to speak of. |

That's probably because you are a little flipper flopper who can't make up his mind on anything, at least that's what it seems like from your posts. Oh, I love Korea, no I'm leaving, this place is terrible and I have great job prospects in the U.S., ohh, but my job wasn't good, I'm coming back, blah, blah, blah.
I had to leave Korea, and the only reason I came back was because I met a wonderful woman the first time I was here. We will be leaving in another year when she gets all that she needs to get done, done. If you are motivated, you can make do where ever you are, with positive results.
And if I am mistaking you for someone else who was happy then complained bitterly and did a midnight runner, then came back, forgive me. I think it's the same name. |
