Busted link there bro. But I know what you are talking about. My co-teach had a Yahoo Korea story up about it today. I asked her if she believed kimchi cures flu. She just said "It is good for Korea's image overseas." Confused

Did you point out that 4 have died here from the disease?

Wow, they really don't get us, do they. So, they think that we think the kimchi on the lips is the funny part? Wow....

hehe...my student told me about this today, and the way he told it, I thought he meant a mask made of kimchi! I told him that you wouldn't get flu if you wore it in NYC cos no one would come near you!

I heard through the grapevine that the gov't knows there is no conclusive evidence that kimchi is good for flu prevention, but that they ignore that fact and publish it to ease their nationalistic inferiority complexes.

LOL. My friend's school sent out a school wide email telling people to eat more kimchi so they don't get swine flu. Personally, I think I'd rather get the flu than eat more kimchi.

Another example of irony being lost on the land of the morning calm-- If kimchi is such a great preventative against flu, then why do I need the mask, huh?

This is slightly off topic, but I thought it'd make a good addition.

I go to the gym alot. One of very few foreigners there. There a few regular Koreans. One guy is unbelievable. He's the hardcore nationalist type. So hardcore he doesn't even want to know what "hello" means. He works out "Korean style", by doing the mini reps on an exercise. And uses the swinging machines and such for the old folks. Anyways, I never say anything to him. It's his body, let him do what he wants.

One day a few months ago, I saw him stretching a such. Nothing out of the ordinary. Except, every few minutes he goes over to his bag. It looks like he's eating something. This isn't unusual. Some hardcore bodybuilders will eat protein bars, banana's, or even chicken while they workout. There is some, but not much, science to back it up. I've been working out for a few years with some serious bodybuilders, so I shrug it off.

Except, he keeps going back to his back like ever 5 minutes. He'll do a set of bench press, then go eat. Do a set of squats, go eat. You get the idea. Eventually I end up at a machine with a clear sight of his bag. Sure enough he heads over there. He takes out a black grocery bag and in it is a bowl of kimchi! I kid you not. This guy is slamming mouthfuls of kimchi every 5 minutes of his workout. By the end, he hits the tredmill. He starts walking, then a jog, and it's not 5 minutes before he's running to the bathroom, both hands covering his mouth. It's a good twenty minutes or more before he comes out, white as a ghost. I mean pale white. He gathers his things and just leaves. I step into the bathroom later to wash up before going home and it wreaked of the worst vomit I've ever smelled in my life.

Even the Koreans were rather shocked at what this guy had been doing. One that I workout with sometimes came up to me the next day. He asked if I had seen what was going on. I said I did. He told me "that's a little bit crazy I think." "A little bit?" I asked, "that's a whole lotta crazy."

The point I guess that guy learned... kimchi and exercise, don't mix.

He's just inventing the new bulimia, nothing wrong with that.

At the Seoul Racecourse the other day they had 2 girls wearing face masks checking you for swineflu before you could go into the foreigners section. Apparently I'm not sick. I don't eat kimchi.
