I just moved into a new place in out in Gangseo and wanted to get my own internet connection. I'm stealing someone's wireless internet at the moment and it is obscenely slow.
I want the fastest possible connection as I'll be doing some heavy downloading.
Anyone know? |

I had KT before and it stunk... gave me the "lost internet" everytime I decided to play War 3!!
Then LG came to my house. They "prewired" the entire building, so while doing that they had the offer on the table. I bit.
Back to topic, they say the connection speed is 10MB a second (going to have to double check that) |

I'm always confused about the reported connection speeds. Is that 10mb per second down? Cause there are other connections that advertise 100/10 --> which usually means up to 8 or so mb's per second downloads on well seeded torrents. |

Anything is better than leeching off the neighbor. The speed in this country, at least in the city, is obscene. There is no real noticeable difference in browsing, but DL's work like butter. Case in point, I got the second season of the wire, which was 4GB in about 15 minutes. It was the record, and most will be slower than that, but dang that was nice. Bear in mind I don't bother with that wireless crap unless I'm away from home. I plug in with my Ethernet cable, which give better speed.
By the way, I use KT and I have no problems besides the occasional hiccup in the connection which lasts about 2 seconds usually but I'm in the middle of Dongnae, so my experience may not be yours. |

AFAIK, all the ISP's offer 100/10 connections. My understanding of this is that 100MB is the theoretical limit. But it won't actually work at those speeds. 10MB is the theoretical upload speed. Again, never expect it.
Although, in saying that, if you live in a building with a fiber-optic connection, you'll get really high speeds.
My last two apartments had fiber-optic connections. When running the internet speed test I was able to record 96mbps download and 22mbps upload with Hanaro.
A little bit less with my new ISP. LGpowercomm. |

Thanks for the help guys.
So I gather then that my choice is limited to which company has wired my building? |

With downloading you are normally limited by the other people's connection speed rather than your own here |

Yeah, that's what I'd figure would happen with torrents. But I'll also be downloading via Usenet which gave me constant 2-4mb downloads back in the states. So here, I'm looking to get 1080p rips in like half an hour. |

Usually it depends on what type of connection is in your apartment rather than the ISP. I live in a brand new apartment in Seoul with LG Xspeed.
I get 10-11 meg a second from korean sites. Then the fastest i've got from america is about 7 meg a second, but that is rare. |
