these have been bandied about and have stoked my curiosity.
I'm currently quite content where I am and have 8 months left on my contract but should I decide to stay for another year in Korea, I should probably check these places out, especially since it seems my pay scale could increase considerably, I've heard numbers thrown about like 3 mil plus?
All I've heard thus far is that they want graduates of top ranked US unis.
check. ( my degree is in Economics)
What else will they be looking for?
(If I apply next year I will also have had 2 years of experience teaching highschool in Korea and another year in a different country.)
other than more necessary prerequisites, any description of job conditions, housing, vacation etc would be appreciated.
thank you. |

Connections
Top ranked University
SAT scores, SAT scores, ACT scores etc..
most likely a demo class or essay sample.
If your an Eco major with good scores, you might consider teachin AP Economics or SAT II Economics. |

ha
school rank won't be an issue.
well connections I do NOT have - although those can be forged. I can ask the brass at my school with which I am friendly about "connecting" to such places.
scores? not terrific, but not bad. I was something like 1280 combined on Sat and a 30 on act I think.
(these were so LONG ago! )
I think the SAT has been changed since I took it, the one I remember didn't have specific subject sections. With the exception of advanced mathematics (which didn't appear on sat/act when I took it) I could probably easily teach almost everything on the menu?
sample class?
in what? with what?
this may be an issue. I've never taught such a course and would it be in a very small or larger group?
are they teaching the Kaplan method? or just constantly going thru practice exams, or what? |

I got position offers from Princeton, blah, blah, blah SAT prep schools in the very area that you are talking about without ever having set foot in Korea several years ago. I don't know what their criteria is these days, but I can't imagine that you have to be too damn special. |
