Do you get celebrity status attention at your school? with students, not teachers.. I am a Kyopo by the way.. oh yeah...90 percent of the female students have a crush on me...this is in a middle school of 1500..I get swarmed by them every single day..they ask for my phone number and everything...they also tend to get really excited when I enter the classroom...

I do, but I teach at a girls highschool - they tend to get excited about everything.
Not to say that I'm not awesome, I am. |

Yes, I am popular, but I'm also the only foreign teacher at my school. The grade 6 girls love me and the grade 3 students tell me I'm 7 years old, which is apparently quite the compliment. I get birthday presents from the principal and vice-principal and the teachers that I share the teachers room with gave me a surprise birthday party with cake and candles and even a birthday song in English. I was quite touched.
I do like playing with the students. I have mock fights with them in the hallways, poke the chunky ones in the stomach and get chased by a pack of students up and down the stairs. I also put on a mock evil laugh and chase a pack of students up the stairs. It's totally childish, but it's harmless fun and it works. In class, the coteacher takes care of the discipline so I'm free as a bird. That said, I can also be super tough in class, but the students understand when my teacher face is turned off. |

I was popular until i made it clear I was a major D-Bag.
After that, the letters stopped... thank god.
I made a few mistakes though, I think my number is still floating around with some high school girls... jesus...
they used to msg me the most trivial crap.
"I'm combing my hair"
Nice, well I'm cleaning my toilet bowl(which is a rare fare indeed). So let's keep this type of conversation to ourselves until after we're married where I still won't care. |

I can imagine things stopped when you gave up on that Candy, Games, Stickers ,edutainment thing. You can always redeem yourself by wearing a set of Micky Mouse ears. |

Same here. Though we'll see if they feel the same way next week after I start teaching. |

girls schools are a little "different" to be sure.
I went to an open lesson in a nearby HS where the sexes are seperated in classes and when I walked by an all girls class, they all rushed up and started waving and saying hello.
so when I stopped stuck my head in and simply said hello - they started screaming like I was Justin Timberlake when boy bands were the big thing. For a passing moment I knew what it was like to be a member of the Beatles.
My Id was reveling in it all, enjoyed every moment.
My ego however put a stop to it and I left quickly.

You know... I was wondering the same thing, because I'm a Chinese Canadian. I was wondering how they'd react to an Asian English teacher.
The teachers asked about that, and were fine with it (and some wanted to ask about how some Korean words in Hanja compare to Chinese pronunciation).
As for the students, I'm their first ever native English teacher. Despite being a bit daunted by having to practice their English in front of a non-Korean, they seem to be embracing the challenge for the most part. I watched several classes and noticed that they get dictated to a lot and don't get many chances to speak the language; for my first week, I did a lot of "repeat this sentence" activities. They seem to appreciate that, as far as I can tell. They didn't care that I was an Asian as well... They seem to see this as a rare chance to hear "real English."
And like my Caucasian counterparts, I'm getting a lot of random "HELLO!" and "HI!!!" greetings from the students. |

| At both my school, they would tell me how handsome I was and send me text messages constantly and sometimes even call. One would even always have to touch my face when she saw me and say 'perfect nose and face.' Have to admit, I liked it. |

This might be the creepiest thread I've ever read on Dave's ESL Cafe. |
