|
|
I've heard some anecdotes about how US citizens can go onto US military bases and shop at the stores there and do other things. Somebody once said there are banks on the bases and stuff like that too.
Does anyone know anything about this? Are there really some sort of perks to be had on the military bases if you are an American? Or is it just a bunch of crew-cut sporting goons walking around?
Thanks. |

| Again: No matter what your citizenship is, you can ONLY get on to the base when you are accompanied by an active/retired service member who has a valid military ID. |

You can buy a year pass if American, it's really expensive though, maybe 10 million won for one year? I forget exactly; the owner of Whatthebook used to have one. You can also take two people with you on base, as long as they have suitable ID. |

Wrong.
Read my post above. Also, how do the Koreans who work on base get, uh, on base then? |

Ah I see.
Some guy in Busan told me he went shopping at a military supply store and got to but a lot of American food and stuff on a base. Maybe he had a military friend help him get in there and he just didn't mention that part? |

Cool. Do you know if it's worth it and what you can do on base?
Can I buy stuff?
Can I fire some ICBMs at Afghanistan?
Can I get a flat-top haircut?
What does it get me? What is happening on these bases exactly? |

I forget exactly, but you have access to most things except some shopping? I can ask the owner of Whatthebook, he is Stateside now so I have no idea when he will get back to me.
Being on base is like being in America I guess, doesn't feel like Korea at all. You have to tip at restaurants though, and can pay for stuff there in Yankee dollah too of course. |

Why does this sound like the time in grade 12 when I sold a freshman a pool pass to the pool on the roof that the school didn't have? |

I think I agree. If it really is 10 million won then there is no way I would pay for it. I probably wouldn't even pay 1 mill. I thought it was free. I'll stop by the base and ask them sometime I guess. |
