Hi everyone,
I am looking for some advice. I've been in Korea for 5 1/2 months working at a Public School. I think I might be going through culture shock or a nervous breakdown. I have no work-related complaints out of the ordinary, but I've developed a lot of physical and mental problems. I've been drinking a lot lately to the point of bad alcoholism. This morning I started coughing up blood. I never did this back home. I've also started getting wasted and sending hate mail about Korea to my relatives. I don't know what's happening to me. What would you do? Would you put in your notice? Would you just jump on a plane? Please give me advice.

I would wait it out. You usually get culture shock at around the 6 to 8 month mark. The second semester always tends to pass by a lot quicker.

You can finish your contract. Seriously. Good luck to you.

Sounds like you hit the "culture shock" wall. Give it time.

Guys, I think I hit the culture shock wall hard. I've been out of breath all day and really worried about this blood I've been coughing up. WTF.

With the way the economy is these days? HOLD ON to any job you have.

We're on the cusp of the greatest depression the world has every known.

Be thankful you are gainfully employed. And start drinking more Toad Juice WHILE you eat.

I hope I've been of service.

I don't know man. However the economy is going, I don't think my body can handle this. Thinking about putting in notice, do I do it?

Go to a doctor. Find out what's up with the blood. Sounds pretty extreme.

It's true, though - there's nothing for you in the States (or wherever it is you came from). If possible, try to work through the frustration and anxiety and isolation.

And see a doctor TODAY.

Maybe you should see a doctor. I don't know what culture shock has to do with coughing up blood but I think you should take care of that first.

It sounds like you have an ulcer.

When you drink alcohol, you must eat.
