whats a 'notary public' and where do i find one?

Any local lawyers office will notarize your documents for you, expect to pay from $20 to $75 depending on where you live/availability/etc.
Also Embassies and City Halls have notary publics. I've had good and bad luck with both.

In essence they take your original document, photocopy it and stamp it verifying that they believe the document to be true and good.

But if I'm reading your post correctly, then you would need a notary public (ie. a lawyer) write up a notice of termination... That would lead to some extra fees I would imagine.
However if it is a lawyer that is familiar with these practices, I assume that they have a bilingual template already for this sort of notice.

actually, that quite helpful.
i think a lawyers office and city hall will be a good place to start. I only want a stamp so that i can scare my boss when i tell him my notice is getting sent to immigration.
in fact i just found out a few minutes ago that you can cancel your visa yourself and you dont need a release letter from you hogwan owner (this conveluted answer is for the benefit of anyone reading this).
