I will be moving into the Shingal area near Kangnam University, so I was wondering if anybody has any info on good gyms in the area. By good, I mean all the basics and hopefully some hammer strength machines. What I really want is a set of dumbbells that at least goes to 50 kilos or above.

You found a gym that has 50kg ones already? :O
My gym is scrubby but has upto 34kg Sad So I need to use alot more bar stuff than I want.

The more expensive, luxury gyms in the area only have upto 20kg -_-

Maybe if they spent less time rolling up their sleeves and looking at their non existant muscles and actually working them. There would be gyms with more weights.

I used to live in Yong-in. There was a gym in Gugal (between Singal and Kangnam Univ.) and it was new and pretty nice a few years ago. It was 60,000 won a month if I remember correctly (maybe 50 if you got more than one month at a time) and there are about 5 free shuttle buses owned by the gym that run different routes every hour making it quite handy. The gym also had a swimming pool which was extra. It was great at the time since it was so new, big, and fairly empty (including the shuttle buses).

I just found the gym bag they gave out and it's called Gugal Sports Center, phone number is 031-281-0345.

Now there was another new gym that opened very near Kangnam University (same street as the entrance) and I switched to this gym later on. It was a good gym as well, no swimming pool. I switched because it was closer to me (no shuttle bus needed) and cheaper (40,000 I think). Don't know the name, sorry. It was a second floor gym, and there was actually another gym right across the street from it on the second floor also.

Anyways, this information is from about 2005-2006, so who knows whats changed.

But there are a few options around that area.

jiberish, I just arrived yesterday and looked at a couple gyms but the dumbbells only went up to 35 kilos. Last year my gym in Gwanak Gu had dumbbells up to 45 kilos.

polarbear, thanks for the detailed reply. I'll will look into Gugal Sports Center and the other gyms you mentioned tomorrow morning. Thanks again

^ sorry, but I don't think you're gonna find 50 kilo dumbbells at either of those places either. But they are probably the best in the area.

I solved the problem by creating my own gym at home.
