I have an interview with Dong-A University in Busan and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything good or bad about this institution? Any information would be helpful and much appreciated. Thank you!

I think there are two universities with similar sounding names in Busan, Dong-eui and Dong-A. At least one of them is a private university that has decided not to renew some of their current employees visas (as they are legally entitled to do). If it is the private university, then it attracts people with a lot of money. I can find out more details from a student if you want.

Dong-A University is a private University. Dong Eui is also a private University. There are only two national universities in Pusan/Busan. They are Pusan National Uni and Bu-Kyung National Uni.

Dong-A Uni has a pretty good rep as far as Korean reps go but it is a way out. If you are going for just a regular teaching position there in one of the departments then the pay is not that great but if you have a Phd then your pay should be pretty good. I haven't heard many complaints but they do exist. I can't comment on those as they are unsubstantiated hearsay. Maybe someone will bite.

Good luck.

BEWARE! They may try to classify you as a part-time employee, and as a result your vacation time would be unpaid.

Better read through your contract with a fine tooth comb. Don't leave any details hanging!

Thank you very much for your responses. I have an interview this week. Any EFL institution in Korea that doesn't have very vocal detractors is worth a look. Thanks for the heads up about the possibility of unpaid vacation.
