Ok here's the deal. I've realized that I need some sort of hobby to occupy my time because I'm bored and lonely, have very few friends that I don't see very often, and I end up drinking too much in bars which always leads to trouble. I need something constructive to work on, and to have some purpose in my life besides teaching in a hagwon and drinking. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions?
I'm thinking about joining a gym or taking Korean lessons. Any other suggestions?

Joining the gym would be your best bet thus far. You can meet other people at the gym and possibly network.

There is a group called the Hash House Harriers. There are several of them in the Seoul area, and a few in other areas of Korea. It is a running club and the members frequently hang out after running at a bar or restaurant. You don't have to get wasted, either, if you don't want to. What area of Korea are you living in?

These are my hobbies

1. Exercising
2. Sightseeing- going to the express bus terminal and just getting on a bus to "somewhere" and staying in that place for the weekend.
3. Learning more about Korean history, especially as it pertains to the Japanese colonial period.
4. Coin Collecting

I'm living in Daegu ...

Thanks for the suggestions. I think I will start with gym and Korean lessons and see how fulfilled I feel after that ...

How much does everyone pay for their gym membership? The gym closest to me is 500,000 won for a 3-month membership, which seems a little steep.

Yeah, that IS very steep.
I'd try to ask a coworker to ask around about the local community centers. Many of them have health centers in them.

WOW...500,000? You must be near Beomeo! That is a pricey gym for Daegu!

Yeah ... I've been asking co-workers for weeks and haven't gotten anywhere with it. I also haven't seen any other gyms on my own wanderings. I guess I will just keep looking ...

Believe it or not, most gyms in Korea are not on the first floor. They usually occupy the third or fourth floor of a building.

All you need to do is jot down these characters "헬스 클럽" or simply "헬스" and look for signs that have these in the title. These are typically health clubs.
