Hello peeps,
I am back in South Korea on a tourist visa with no job. Was looking to do some traveling from here so didn't want to settle into a job just yet.
I kinda didn't really enjoy teaching so much and would like to try a job like proof reading or grammar checking as I want to stay in South Korea. I have heard of a few people who have done this but never heard whether its any good. Firstly I would love some feedback from anyone who knows anything about it and whether its likely to achieve a job like this.
Secondly as your not teaching children would you need to get a criminal record check? This is the only document I do not have, and its a damn right pain in the ass, so the idea of not having to get this sounds appealing.
What other options do us waygooks have when it comes to non-teaching jobs in Korea? Anything else out there realistic?
If anyone knows anything what so ever about this. I would love your help and or advice.
Thanks in advance |

Also "grammer" in the title. I wouldn't normally point out mistakes on Dave's, because I'm sure I make some too, occasionally, and it's a more informal context, but if you want to be a proofreader and make mistakes like mixing your/you're... |

Wow! Such helpful responses! littlelisa, it's a forum, not a text book. So go waste time somewhere else.
Demophobe, an E2 is a teaching visa, so a different job like this might have a different visa code. |

OP, Daves can be a very good place to network. I landed two good teaching jobs, and an awful lot of copy editing and proofreading work through this site. The thing is, in order to be offered the work here, you've got to prove you are up to the challenge in your posts.
Full-time editing work in theory falls under the E-7 visa, which doesn't require the background check. Those are actually harder to get though, and a lot of companies would rather hire someone on an F-series visa for part time work. |

Yes, but given your writing skills, the E2 just seems inevitable.
Seriously though...I didn't know that. Good luck. |
