Whether you're for or against healthcare reform it's undeniably a huge issue for America and it's future.
So, what do you believe will be passed? When do you think it'll be passed?
--------
My best guess: reform, including the obvious insurance reforms (stopping descrimination for pre-existing conditions etc) and a public option, passed in December (as Reid said).

House tries to force a public option, fails in the Senate. After that, either the Democrats give up, or the sell-outs among them manage to talk the rest into voting for a "reform" bill that just makes things worse by mandating private coverage, along with some features that on a casual glance look like reforms, but do nothing to actually reform the system.
No idea on time frame. |

All these citizens just thinking of their own health strike me as very, very selfish. Isn't it time they thought about others - such a our soldiers in the field and the financial captains of the country
Health care reform will be very, very expensive. Meanwhile, there are very many countries around the world in which we still have neither attacked nor gone to war. It wouldn't be fair to leave them out and deprive our brave men in uniform the opportunity for more experience and to see more of the world.
Meanwhile, we need many trillions of dollars just to keep our financial bigwigs and their banks and investment firms in the lavish lifestyle they are used to. After all, they are the ones in charge of the finance of the entire country! What, do you want the entire nation's economic system to collapse just so you don't have to pay the doctor when you catch cold? Give me a break already!
Come on, this is a time when we all must tighten our belts. Stop being so selfish, and start thinking of, as JFK said, what you can do for your country. |

That was not a rant. It's called satire.
Regardless of that and to answer you, I actually agree with Fox, but since I am a gambling man I'll give a time frame.
I put my $2 on November. No, wait, I'll go with December because they always try to sneak thee things in during the holidays when no one is paying attention. |

Most of the Democrats and Republicans are positioning themselves, trying to feel the way the voters are leaning. They don't want to vote too early and go the wrong way on this issue. They only want to be reelected.
Some Dems feel fairly certain that their districts lean toward some kind of socialized medicine, single payer or public option at a minimum. They are agitating that way. Many are sure enough to vote now, but others want to delay to see just how far they should go. If they go too far they could lose their seat.
Some Repubs feel fairly certain that to be reelected, they need to vote against any new socialized medicine, but still, waiting is safer.
The majority in both parties would rather put off a vote as long as possible to get to the position that will win the most votes.
Members of both parties, and Obama, are also waiting to see what the economy will do. They are worried about a second downturn. If they pass some socialized health plan, it could tip the economy back down and the Dems could lose their House majority.
The result is that there will be a lot of posturing and preliminary voting, but we are unlikely to see any major health bill passed until 2010. Maybe in late spring or early summer. Then the pressure will be on. House members, and some Senators, will be buying votes with socialist spending again, including some fascist-socialist health plan. But, they have to be careful to spend just enough to win votes from some without generating the backlash of too many others.
If the movement against more socialism in the health industry continues to grow, and no bill is passed by the middle of summer, the issue could die with no bill passed.
The truth is that ALL of the problems in the health care industry are the result of too much government spending and regulation - especially regulation of the health care providers, hospitals, drug companies and insurance companies. |

I predicted that nothing will pass in 2009 (except, perhaps, a few insurance regulations re: pre-existing conditions, portability etc).

As an update on this, Max Baucus' recently proposed plan sounds like it's an excellent candidate for a proposal that would win me the sweepstakes if it passes.
Substantial fines for those who don't buy coverage, very weak requirements for the % of medical costs insurance companies are forced to pay, suggested industry fees that will almost assurely just get passed along to the customer. Sounds great, if you're an insurance company. |

And just as I predicted (on another thread), this is just going to turn out to be the bailout of the insurance companies.
If coverage is going to be mandated for everyone, why not just cut out the middlemen (the insurance cos.) and provide coverage directly? Savings would be considerable. |

No National Health Care bill in 2009.
None will pass in 2010 either (except, maybe, some minor provisions for electoral purposes). |
