Hi,

Is it possible to use pagers in Korea? I basically just want to be able to text short messages - do you know any cellular providers that do this?

Thanks.

I'll sell you my Motorola 삐삐 I bought back in 1994. Yes, I've still got it and my old Motorola phone that is the size of a brick and weighs about the same too. Actually, I wonder if they might actually be worth something in a few more years...

Yes, it was pointed out to me that I would be going back to the dark ages, but I thought you couldn't get a contract on a mobile phone if you weren't a proper resident and I don't want to fork out loads for a new pay-as-you-go phone. I wonder if my Nokia would work? I was in Japan on holiday recently and my sim didn't even get a network, but if I just put a Korean one in, maybe it would?

I have a Nokia 6300 - do you think this would work?

Actually, if you are doing texts, pay as you go is pretty cheap. Just the calls get expensive. And that way, you can actually reply.

No, there are no sims in korea it just goes through a network and straight onto the phone, not the sim card like in Ireland and the U.K.

If you don't mind using a pager then you won't mind using an older phone, just go to the phone shop and buy a 2nd hand phone, you will get decent enough ones for less than W100,000 and then just top it up as you go. I rarely used my one, spent about 50,000 in a year and a half and the only reason I topped up that amount is because the time expired on the top up i had previously purchased.
