Question Whatever happens to the apostilled copy teachers send the school to take to Immi for the visa issuance number?
Question Does Immi keep that copy or give it back to the school?
Question If the school is required to have the degree on hand for inspections, why don't they make their own copy of the apostilled version before turning it over to Immi?

If they refuse a polite request, wait a day or two and tell them that you have contacted your embassy, and they told you to report that it's been stolen...this is in fact what many embassies will tell you to do.

If they still refuse, report it stolen.

oh what a bunch of crap. Let them have it. Your school will provide another if you need to work at another place. Everytime you seek a job you'll have to get one sent - from the school - not delivered by you. Grow up

Sounds good in theory until you realize not all universities will replace diplomas every time you ask them to. Some put a (very small) limit to how many replacements you can have. Some won't replace a diploma at all, not even once. Good luck if you attended those universities.

Mine will only replace a diploma twice. A former hagwon "lost" mine, so I'm down to only one more replacement before I'm screwed.

Politely ask if you can make a photocopy of it, then keep the original.

Not all Universities will replace a degree without a hastle. My university requires a lawyer's signature to replace a degree. Too many problems with this sort of thing in the past.
They also will tell you NEVER EVER allow your original degree to be kept or stored by anyone else other than in a bank vault.
Korean Hogwans don't get it, because Korean degrees aren't worth the paper they're printed on. ROK is a degree mill. simply put. I think it is funny that Korea wines about fake degrees from other countries but then pumps out the most crap degrees in the "1st world"

Is there anything I can do to force them to give it back to me without causing too much trouble?

well i didnt want to fight them over my diploma , they keep insisting its important to show to parents if they ask.... they are very persistent and I dont want to make things sour at work and create an atmosphere of distrust or have them pissed off at me for standing up for my rights , so i , like a lowly waygook, just bowed my head and let them have their way. i am just happy to get paid on time, even though they make shady deductions.

Are you joking? Shocked

There is no reason whatsoever for the boss to keep your diploma! Well, in the boss's eyes, there's a very good reason: to prevent you from pulling a runner. If he's afraid of that, then that means his previous "lowly waygukin" pulled a runner--no doubt for good cause.

You're fully aware, obviously, that your boss is a thief, a cheat, and a liar. See your own post about "shady deductions" for confirmation of that fact. Why do you trust him?

And this is one reason why directors think that they can pull this kind of stuff and get away with it. Too many people tamely knuckling under...IT'S YOUR PROPERTY, for crying out loud!
I can see all kinds of situations developing in the future.

Boss: "I need you to work OT, but I can't pay you OT."

Iamronin11: "Whatever you say, Boss."

Next week:

Boss: "I have to cut your pay, the hakwon is experiencing financial difficulties."

Iamronin11: "Yessir!"

End of contract.

Boss: " I'm not paying severance pay, because I don't feel like it"

Iamronim11: "I suppose you know best sir."

Copies are sufficient for them to see your credentials.

I only had to give one copy to MoE and one to Immigration.

The rest is BS.

And that's why they are keeping your diploma. If you are correct and they are doing bad things with your paycheck, that's the reason they are keeping your diploma. So you can't quit. Things can only go down from here.

Is your diploma on display? If so, do not ask any questions. Just take it. If you want, replace it with a photocopy. Then, see how they react. If they get angry, just say its your property. They would not fire you over taking your own diploma.

It's all BS. The mere fact that the OP has an E-2 visa is sufficient.
