Looks like the announcement for the 3rd Gen iPod Touch (with a built-in camera??) is coming soon. The Apple store has already slashed their prices for the iPod Touch. The Korean Apple store is currently updating.

This is good news for so many of those who have been thinking about picking one up:

8GB..........$229---->$189
16GB........$299---->$249
32GB........$399---->$279

I wonder how this will convert to the Won. I know the prices are little higher to cover the poor exchange rate plus the fact that anything branded here tends to be a little higher.

News is in. Price cuts.

http://store.apple.com/kr/browse/home/shop_ipod/family/ipod_touch?mco=Nzk2Mjk0NQ

8gb.......309,000won
32gb.....459,000won
64gb.....619,000won

32gb and 64gb are also faster than before.

The price cut is most likely due to Apple wanting to stay competitive with Microsoft. MS is launching its new Zune HD on the 15th with its 32gb model selling for $289.

Those price cuts aren't that significant. They could have tried to get a little closer to exchange. Especially in a market where apple doesn't quite have the status it does in the states.

This means the 3rd generations will be more expensive.

It seems the new Touch didn't get a camera. Too bad, I was thinking about getting one if it did.

Remember, in Korea status=expensive. If it's cheap no one wants it.

Which might come in to play if they suddenly made the price 5,000, but I know plenty of koreans who shop for deals and are happy if they get something cheap. That kind of thinking doesn't come into play at all if they set the price of the 8 GB at around 250,000W instead of 309,000W.

It is close to exchange already, sans the major tax they put on things like this. You won't see it very close to exchange otherwise.

exchange is 230,000W. Do you have any documents which show the actual import fees on a per unit basis?

3rd gen Touch is a waste of money. No Camera... What about all the new apps that are utilizing Augmented Reality through the Camera?

They even managed to stick a vga camera into the Nano.

I bought my 32GB for 460,000 won last Christmas.

Nope. But I compared the two prices on the US and Korean Apple sites.
Also, the Ipod prices were hiked up a few months ago when the exchange rate was really crazy and the won was really cheap.

Great but that doesn't mean its import fees and not gouging or something else blamed on "exchange"
We already know the price is higher in Korea than the US, but I'd have a hard time believing 79,000W in import fees. There are still taxes and things that have to be paid bringing goods into the US as well.

I really don't think you should compare any price to the US price. Electronics are always cheaper in America than anywhere else in the world. I always felt bad for the Brits when companies would just switch the dollar sign for the pound sign on prices.

*shrug* It's a protective measure. By major tax, I meant the "price gouging" on imports to protect domestic products and not literally a tax. So on that point, I totally agree with you.
With that being said, I still think it made economic sense for them to raise the prices up a few months ago due to the Won being ~1500 to each US dollar at the time.
