When I bought my ipod a couple of years ago I think it was actually a bit cheaper than in the U.S.
I read a couple of months ago that Apple pegged the won to 1400 per US Dollar. So I think that's why the prices are so much now. It seems crazy with the won around 1230. |

Welcome to life outside of America! I'm from Australia, and Apple products are more expensive there than the US as well. It's frustrating...especially when you consider that they make them in China (so near yet so far)...but it's the way of the world. |

Just buy the old one, they are slashing the prices. There's virtually no difference from the old one. Wow a little bit more processing power and a 64gb option.
Zune HD here I come. |

adding OpenGL, and supposedly the 64GB model is faster than the other upgraded ones, but it wasn't stated why that is.
Going to be grabbing the 64GB one when I head back to states next week. |

Apple is very dodgy how they market their products...
A few weeks ago in August, they were offering a "back to school" sale offering a free iPod touch with your Macbook Pro... this was pre-Snow Leopard (for the most part) and obviously before the 64GB iPT.
Now, I am in the market for a new Macbook (and a FREE iPT would be sweet) however waiting it out until they offer a nice fat discount would be best...
Xmas '09 Please please please! |

Grew up with Apple and they have always put out shoddy quality products that are way advanced and ahead of their time... more ahead than anyone can fathom... and then justify the high prices that way .
Anybody old enough to remember the LISA (that was pre-Mac) that cost $10,000 (this was 1982) and was a "home computer?" Or that iPod's used to set you back $500? (not to mention their $100,000 workstations that graphics and film editors used to buy into)
Apple is for the BMW/Mercedes crowd.
If you can't afford Apple's innovation, YEPP, Sandisk and Zune are there for you too. |

For those of you coming to the U.S. to buy your ipods:
I'm a bit of a gadget freak, so I placed an order for a 64gb touch and a 16gb black nano on Amazon. Amazon has no tax, ships for free, and I get another 3% back for using their credit card. I find the touch to be a lifesaver for long bus/plane rides in Korea.
If you were more patient, then wait for one of the stores participating on bing.com to start getting the new ipods. I'm willing to bet bing will go to 14% off or more again right before Christmas. |
