Who cares about the price? The point is the 3rd generation Touch is crap.

They put a new processor in it and doubled the memory and its 3rd Generation? In that case the PS3 Slim is REALLY the PS4 because that comes with improved processor and more memory also.

Wow... glad I didn't wait for the new camera option. It seems obvious that they decided to milk the old style a while longer, as so many were holding-off and not buying due to the new camera version coming. I have a feeling that, after the leak, they decided to wait longer to reveal the new version.

I expect an updated I-pod Touch with a camera to suddenly appear before Christmas, after they've skimmed a few suckers who just can't wait.

Apple Korea is not cheating you on the prices. In fact, from what I can tell, Apple has calculated the prices at the current exchange rate of 1250 won per dollar.

First, everyone here needs to remember that the iPod Touch IS NOT $199, $299, or $399 in the US. That is the pre-tax price. Anyone who buys an iPod Touch is going to pay an average of 8 percent sales tax on it.

So, let's make a fair comparison. If you go to Apple Korea, the prices shown there INCLUDE the sales tax (10% VAT). This is the same 10% that is included in the price you see on the menu at McDonalds, on the book you buy at Kyobo, and so on. All Korean prices have this 10 percent already added into the price. Don't believe me, go to the Korean Apple Store and add an iPod Touch to your cart. It will show the tax that is already included in the price.

So, if you are going to compare prices, you need to compare the same prices (pre-tax prices). Here it is:

Korea Apple Store Pre Tax Prices For iPod Touch:

64GB: 562,727 won
32GB: 417,273 won
8GB: 280,091 won

US Apple Store Pre Tax Prices For iPod Touch:

64GB: $399
32GB: $299
8GB: $199

*****Also, let's not forget that electronics imported into Korea have a 14 percent duty placed on their pre-tax US dollar value.

For example, a 64GB iPod Touch has a $399 USD value. At the current exchange rate, that is about 494,000 won. Add 14 percent (about 69,000 won) to that pre-tax price and you get a price of about 563,000 won. Now add the 10 percent VAT to that price (VAT does not include the duty when calculating it, so it would be 494,000 x 10 percent). This would add about 49,000 won to the total, which brings the price to 612,000 won (only 7,000 won difference from the Apple Store's listed price, since the exchange rate fluctuates each day).

Go ahead, run the numbers for each. You'll find that the price here in Korea includes the 10 percent sales tax and the 14 percent import duty. If you buy an iPod Touch in the US, you'll still pay the sales tax but you'll avoid the 14 percent duty.

So, in all fairness, the iPod Touch is only about 15 percent more expensive here than it is in the US, and it is all because of TAXES, not because of the exchange rate.

Don't blame Apple for these prices. Apple does not set Korean taxes and duties. If you are irked about the prices, put the blame where it belongs: The tax happy Korea government!

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/09/a-tale-of-two-ipods-and-why-the-touch-has-no-camera/

The NANO is a better buy than the Touch. It has a camera, accelerometer (NANO apps?), Radio. Its also cheaper.

I'm thinking of selling my Touch and getting a new NANO. Maybe the new NANO will hold me until the Touch with the Camera comes.

I was also disappointed the Touch never got a camera. I was planning on buying a new one if they put a camera in it. I guess I will wait it out.

It sounds like technical problems kept the new I-pod Touch with a camera from being revealed just yet. This site is very reliable:

A couple of good articles about why the I-pod Touch doesn't have a camera (actually, it has space for one, though):

Quote:
Explaining it to the New York Times, Apple CEO Steve Jobs commented that the reason for its exclusion was for marketing and cost reasons. Basically, Apple was now marketing the iPod Touch as a portable gaming device, and adding a camera would increase costs. The cheapest iPod Touch now costs $199 to buy.

However, inside the new iPod Touch, there is space that seems to have been deliberately left for a Nano-like camera that would have been positioned exactly where it was expected to be. A teardown by iFixit revealed the camera space. "It appears that Apple left in room for a camera in the top of the device," the solutions provider said. "There is a 6mm x 6mm x 3mm space between the Broadcom chip and the wireless antenna. There isn't enough depth for an iPhone-style autofocus still camera, but just enough room for the camera that Apple used in the 5th generation iPod nano."

The new finding adds more weight to the rumor that Apple had run into technical problems when trying to equip some of its iPods with a camera. iFixit also made another interesting discovery: the presence of a Broadcom BCM4329 wireless chip that supports 802.11n. The new iPod Touch won't have all the features of 802.11n in use initially however, but instead would require a software update, like the enabling of Bluetooth in the second generation iPod Touch nine months after it was released.

You all aren't the only ones upset about the lack of a camera.
