How long does it take to get your visa issuance number these days? I was told 7-10 days, and it's currently on day 9. I need to be in Seoul by September 21st to start work at a school I already signed with. Should i be worried?

No, they'll wait for you. Don't worry about it.

PS: Waiting for things to be done at the last moment in a sub-par manner is the Korean way. Better get use to it now. Not that there's anything wrong with it, it's just part of their culture.

I am on day 7 right now (including the weekends) and I also am supposed to be there ASAP. I want to give my current job at least some notice, but I'm not sure if I should wait until I get my visa issuance number or just go ahead and tell them I'm leaving? I know Korean culture is very last minute, unfortunately that might not go over so well with my current job/situation.

How hard can it be? How long will it take for you to leave after you get your visa? Are you mailing it or will you be able to go into a Consulate in your area?

If you want a recommendation you might want to give notice...but it's really your call there. It might be better to wait, then give them a few days. But I couldn't see why they wouldn't give you a visa.

Recruiter said it would come early this week. Does anybody know if the visa numbers are sent through the mail to the school/recruiter, then emailed to me? Or are they both emailed to the school/recruiter and then also emailed to me?

How long is the visa turnaround time at Consulates, specifically San Francisco if I've already taught a year and don't need to do an interview?

Waiting sucks.

I guess coming to Korea on a tourist visa while Immigration is processing your visa issuance number wouldn't really speed things up much if you already live in a major city in America near an embassy, a la LA, SF, NY, etc. Once you would get the visa issuance number (while in Korea), you'd still have to do the visa run in Japan, which wouldn't really be any quicker than getting the visa in person at an embassy here in America. You'd just be saving time on the flight to Korea (a couple hours from Japan as opposed to 13 from America).

I was thinking about trying to do a visa run, but I guess it wouldn't really help would it? Or is my logic wrong? This would be my 2nd E-2 so I don't have to do the interview...although I never had to do it the first time either at the LA consulate. I guess they don't really care Smile

Do they all communicate with one another? For example, do Fukuoka immigration talk to Osaka and the place in Seoul (Omokgyo)?

Im thinking of a second visa run to Osaka after cancelling the one from Fukuoka. Loooongggg story
