I'm looking for a new job and when my contract expires I plan to leave the country and visit family.I've bought a roundtrip ticket from here of course. I'm scheduled to leave the day after the ARC expires.

If I get offered another job before I leave, what's the procedure? I don't really want to let my employer know that I plan to return here and work for another hogwan as he's untrustworthy. I don't really want to come back here on a one way ticket as I'm not sure of the ramifications and I will not be able to visit Korean immigration in my home land due to time restraints and family commitments. What should I do?

If your job is ending because the contract is completed you have nothing to worry about. You can sign a new contract, get the job, go get your visa application form, get your visa, then get your ARC. Any new job has nothing to do whatsoever with your old job, you owe nothing to the current employer and do not need permission from them to get a new job after your contract expires, the key of course is that you have finished your contract in its entirety.

You cannot come to Korea to teach and have only a one way ticket. You are required to show proof of exit ability -- you must have a round trip ticket to even get on the plane to come to Korea.

So, what should you do ? if you have a new job lined up, take it, sign the contract, and go home for vacation, come back to Korea and enter with a visitor visa, then have your employer send you to Japan (or elsewhere) to get your E2 visa. Then, start work.

So, my problem is that my RETURN ticket might cause a problem. Do you think I should get the employer to buy me another ticket, just 'cos I went on vacation? I'm supposed to meet with him next week.

Maybe I misunderstood ....

Are you saying you have a one way ticket OUT of Korea ? If so, that's fine.

But to come into Korea, you must have a round trip ticket, to your originating location or another place.

I'd have an employer get the ticket for you in advance. But, that's just me.

Sorry I wasn't very clear. I bought a RT ticket FROM here, so I can visit the folks and then return to Korea, so effectively I'd be coming back without proof of onward travel, but when others enter the country with a signed contract, do they still need a return ticket? I guess so huh? I originally came on a tourist visa with an RT and then never used it. But my thought was to edge out other competition for the job by a A: being here already and B: not requiring prospective employer to spend money on the ticket.
BTW I am not breaking my contract, although the way I've been treated I was tempted at times. My boss has a history of making a fuss when other teachers stay in Korea but leave him due to his unfair treatment

As you already have a return ticket to Korea, have your prospective new employer provide you with a return ticket to Japan for when you do your visa run. That should alleviate any concerns with immigration.
