Many years ago, back in the 90s, Insa-dong used to be a great place to go and find genuine Korean antiques. In the past decade, they "beautified" the area, brought in a lot of Chinese junk and a lot of fakes. It's a nice place to take a stroll, but it's worthless for finding good antiques anymore.

Around where you are, are there any decent antiques stores? If so, please list them here (city, dong, gu, near what landmarks, map coordinates, etc.). My wife and I are planning to do a lot more traveling around the country and would like to visit new places. Thanks!

Yeah, I've looked around at the Seoul ones quite a bit, although I probably will do so again the next time I'm there. Thanks.

I'd really like to visit ones that are in other cities around the country. Years ago, I visited one in Daegu that was really nice; I got an old horse-hair hat and hat case, along with some very old books--the next time I'm in that area, I'm going to see if it's still around.

There are tons of them in Hannam Dong, all right next to each other. However, these places cater alot toward the well-to-do.

I would say the place to go for antiques is Insa-Dong. Many shops there that sell antique nicknacks, although the area is considered rather touristy for some people.

As mentioned in the OP, Insa-dong is not like it used to be. I have been going there since long before the outside world really knew about it (and when real antiques could be found for reasonable prices). The few real Korean antiques it has are now priced outrageously high, while most things pretending to be Korean antiques are really Chinese fakes. I am much more interested in antiques stores in places besides Seoul.

The Seomun market in Daegu. A short cabride from Jungangno or Myeongdeok station. Maybe a 20 min walk. Sinseoldong flea market usually has old stuff. I dont know enough about Korean antiques to say if they`re junk or not.
