For any Canadian requiring CRC with VSS from within Korea -- Winnipeg Police Services website. |
just perused their webpage--- calling them the minute they open.
that's unreal if it works. definitely saves me from mailing the request to the ottawa police department, having them mail it back to the embassy in seoul and me having to go pick it up.
i just hope it still works if im not from manitoba...
cheers oculisorbis! |

I'm an American, but my gf is Canadian, and has been going through all this. After a ton of run around, she was told by Immigration that Vunerable Sector Check was not mandatory for an E-2. |

it's possible immi has flip flopped the requirement for the VSS because there was talk of the RCMP not providing VSS for employment outside of canada, but even if immi did, it doesnt mean some agents wont still demand it. It doesnt cost any extra, if i recall, and you just check a box on the form to get it.
Personally, I like to go to immi with more than what I think they require and then I'm seldom left scrambling for surprise documents.
Not from manitoba? don't worry about it, I wasnt from there either.
From my experience, it's the fastest, most reliable place to request a CRC from canada - with or without VSS - while in korea and its cheap and easy. |

Is it best to get the CBC apostilled in the states, or just bring it over and have it taken care of at the US embassy? |

If you have time, and over there, I'd say get it done in the states, one less thing to hassle with over here, especially if you aren't going to seoul. It is pretty quick to get it done here, but is a trip to the embassy. |

When I originally came over, I used an online PA state background check:
https://epatch.state.pa.us/Home.jsp
Just print it out from the internet, it took like 5 minutes and it was great.
I got it notarized and apostilled with no problems. Has anybody used one of these at the embassy with an affidavit? Will there be any problems with it? |

I believe they want to see the original signature of the supervising officer that provided the check to you. The current policy is to only accept official local, state (provincial), or federal CRC's - online checks are not allowed. However, that being said, who can say what immi will accept from one minute to the next.
Prob best to stick with the one of the three previously mentioned. |

That may be true. But I am a 2 hour drive away from the secretary of state's office. And I'm not so sure if I trust mailing a CBC that took me a month to get to their office either. I sure am glad I am not a first timer to Korea. At least the consulate interview is something I can by-pass. I feel sorry for people who live in a state with no Korean consulate. They have to travel far off to go to one for their interview. |

Well, that link I posted IS the official state background check. Pennsylvania REALLY seems to prefer you to do it online and drags its ass like crazy if you try to get one through the mail. And even then, they mail you the exact same piece of paper that you can print out. I gave up after 3 weeks waiting and printed it out from online just to get the same thing in the mail the next day. |

I'm having trouble getting a new CRC in Canada. See, I've been in Korea and I don't have a permanent Canadian address. I went to the RCMP in Vancouver, and they said this would be a problem, so they directed me to Commissionaires.... So then I take the Commissionaires check to the consulate, and they won't notarize it (as it said on the website, I just forgot )
The question is... if I get a CRC through the Winnipeg police service, would the Vancouver Consulate notarize it? I'm asking because the Vancouver Consulate website states that the check must be from BC, Alberta, SK, or Yukon!
What can I do? |

crc's needed to apostilled, but you cant get that done in canada. at the consulate (at least in korea, anyway) you fill out something called a 'statement of declaration(?)'. it basically just means that you swear it authentic, but it's not a notarization and korean immigration accepts that here in korea. i would guess it's the same in canada. |

No, it's still 6 months...look at immi's webpage. Your recruiter is a dork. |

Hey ya'll .... I'm about to sign a new contract for my second year in Korea... I had such a difficult time trying to get my background check in Cali... I'm worried about trying to get one from Korea... Does anyone have any advice? When I was in America I went to the local police station to get a background check... How do I do that from Korea? When I get it can I just take that straight to the American embassy in Seoul? No Apostile? Thanks for your help in advance! |
