What is the best way to get to Hiroshima??
The only english speaking travel agent i know said there are no flights direct and quoted me 230,000w return to Fukuoka (A friend told me the ferry is 200,00w return)
From there ive found that the Shinkansen will get me to Hiroshima for 130,000w in an hour (slower trains are going to take 10 hours+ ive heard, and i cant find the information to support this assumption)
So the total trip return, to get to Hiroshima (not including taxis/subways) is looking at costing me 460,000w
It seems abit pricey....im only looking at going for 3nights so want to maximise my time in Hiroshima, yet keep my trip as cheap as possible.
I heard there is another ferry that goes from Busan to Shimonoseki (i think) but the shinkansen is about the same cost as far as i can tell...
does anyone have any ideas? |

Yeah, I think flying to Fukuoka, then taking the train is the easiest way.
Why are you interested in just going to Hiroshima? |

I flew from Incheon to Hiroshima directly. It was with Asiana Airlines. I booked it on Expedia.com
That was a few years ago, i don't know if they still do that route.
You'll find plenty of hotels on the web. Make sure to visit the Atomic Bomb site/museum.
Have a nice trip. |

I've been to Hiroshima a few times. I've flow directly there and I've taken the train from Kyoto.
The bullet train from Kyoto/Osaka is about 2 hours if I remember correctly. I had a JR pass so I don't know the cost. I'd guess it'd be a little over 10,000 yen.
Hiroshima is nice and definitely worth a trip. The peace park and museum are well done. Though both visits I've only spent about half a day there. You can also see Hiroshima castle which isn't too far from the A-bomb Dome in Peace Park. It's also worth the short train trip (and ferry) to Miyajima.
Miyajima is an island and it's considered one of the 3 most beautiful places in Japan. You might recognize it from it's trademark Torii in the water (though this only happens in high tide). The island is quite nice and like in Nara, deer are free to roam around. There's a nice shrine and a bunch of places to hike if you want. If you're lucky you might even see some monkeys.
I hope you have a good trip. |

| Any more ideas??.......nope. Ok, maybe fly into Osaka but that deal to Fukuoka is awesome. I personally think that's cheap to fly, take the bullet train and return back to Seoul. If I were you, I'd book that ticket a.s.a.p. If you think it's too expensive then you are going to the wrong place. Good luck. |

I have lived in the south of Korea for many years and have been over that way about 10 times. Ferry and bullet train is usually how I have got there.
When in hiroshima don't miss Miyajima...
It is a beautiful floating shrine set about an hour outside the city (reached easily by tramway) on an island.
It will be all over the tourist literature.
Much better than the bomb site. Museum is good though....nagasaki is better. |

You could forgo the train and just take the bus from Fukuoka to Hiroshima. About 4500 Yen or something and three hours. Very comfortable.
And definitely agree about seeing Miyajima. My favorite spot on my Japan trip. |

Agree with changwoncharlie - Nagasaki's peace park and museum is much, much better than Hiroshima's. There was once a British journalist who described Hiroshima's peace park as "a shrine to Japanese innocence". It's worth going there to see for yourself of course, but I'd say that comment was pretty on the money. If you look into it, there's also a pretty disgraceful recent history of Hiroshima peace park's attitude to the Korean victims of the Hiroshima bomb (who were a significant %age of the total victims).
Anyway, one way of getting there that I'd suggest is this - overnight ferry from Busan to Shimonoseki. From the ferry terminal in Shimonoseki it's 10 minutes walk to the train station. From there take a train to KOKURA (the main station in Kitakyushu, across the water from Shimo - about 15 mins ride); and from Kokura take the Shinkansen to Hiroshima.
If you took the Shinkansen from Shimonoseki, you'd have to get a train from the central Shimonoseki station near the ferry terminal to the Shinkansen station at Shin-Shimonoseki, which is not much nearer than going to Kokura. More importantly, only the slow Shinkansen stop at Shin-Shimo, whereas all of them stop at Kokura. You can do Kokura to Hiroshima in one hour, or less if you take the faster Nozomi. From Shin-Shimo it'd be 1.5 to 2 hours, and there's only one train every hour. |

I find the express buses in Japan to be quite convenient and comfortable.
http://willerexpress.com (used to be 123bus.net)
From the Fukuoka ferry terminal, catch the bus to Tenjin. The bus station is connected to the main train/subway station there.
Takes about 90 minutes to Hiroshima by bus.
With an international driver's license you can also rent a car:

While in Hiroshima, I also suggest checking out a Carp baseball game if they're in town. I'm a big NPB/Fukuoke SoftBank Hawks fan and usually plan my visa runs or vacations around baseball. At the stadium, sit on the new red futon-like cushions in right field GA that I believe were added just recently.

Good suggestion about the car rental. Petrol is cheaper than in Korea and it opens up so many options not so easily available with public transport. Parking and expressway tolls can burn a seriously BIG hole in your pocket though.
Express buses are a much cheaper option than the Shinkansen in Japan. But it does NOT take anything like 90 minutes by bus from Fukuoka to Hiroshima!! More like 5-6 hours.
It's about 300km, the speed limit for most of the way on the expressway is 80km/h with buses keeping to the limit or below, plus all the time consuming non expressway parts. Urban driving in Japan is very, very slow. I've driven from Fukuoka to Hiroshima many times by car, and even the way I drive (130km/h most of the way with a keen eye for police cars!), I've never done it in much less than 3 hours door to door. |
