I second Cathay for cheapness - but they're horrible!
I quite like KLM and they're fairly cheap - my parents have just paid 460 for a return with them. Downside is that you don't get your own TV screen. Good food though! |

Cathay Pacific is my favorite airline! I don't know how you could not like them. I always prefer them when I travel. |

Cathay Pacific are quite expensive, for cheapish flights to the uk, I would recommend finnair or qatar airways. |

If you reversed that, I'd agree.
I've flown Cathay many times and always had excellent service. KLM, however, I've frequently found to be awful and had several friends saying the same. Pretty poor punctuality and a lack of subsequent support from their groundstaff. And these days no personal tv for an 8 hours + flight is dismal IMO. I've not had a problem with KLM food but have found their flights being not very well staffed. I remember one time when passengers were just going and helping themselves to drinks (if there were any left) because nobody was serving us.
Often the Japanese carriers seem to have fairly cheap offers to LHR from Korea, discounted because you have to go the wrong way first to connect with the flight from Tokyo to London. Of the two J carriers, ANA is the better one by far, but Japan Airlines is ok too. Never used them, but other cheap ones I remember when I've been searching flight websites were Qatar Airways via Doha, and Emirates via Dubai, both of which have reasonable reputations. |

I just booked flights for 283 one way (incheon - tokyo - heathrow) with JAL. They were by far the cheapest. Have a look at Malaysian, BA and JAL, they were the three cheapest airlines I found.
You should get a Korean to check the Korean sites (if you can't do it yourself) as that's how I found the best deals.
As for Cathay Pacific, I was mightily impressed with them when I flew to Hong Kong. The seats and entertainment were great. Flying out of Hong Kong, not so good. Would still recommend tho. |

Have you tried looking on whypaymore.co.kr?
I've just been looking on there earlier today and found a return with Eva Air and a return with JAL for under 800,000 nexty month.
In both cases, it'll be because there's an overnight stay in the city you transfer in (Taipei and Tokyo respectively).
Eva Air is Taiwanese. I've never used them for a long flight but I've flown them to Taiwan and back a couple of times and thought they were fine. If it were me, I wouldn't have any qualms about flying to Europe with them.
There was also a Cathay return on the above website for around 800,000 which I think involved an overnight in Hong Kong on the return flight but not the outward one.
I'd be very surprised if you really had to pay as much as 2.5 million for a return to London. |

I usually end up flying KLM or Air France (Korean Air codeshare) because it's easier to get to where I live back in the UK. LHR is inconvenient and usually a nightmare in terms of lost baggage/delays etc for me,
.....but as others have eluded to KLM back to the UK is horrible in the fact that you have to share a TV with everyone else on the overhead screens. AMS is an awesome airport , easy to navigate ,tons of shops to browse, comfy chairs etc. Shame about the airplane they use.
Air France is much better to fly on but CDG is a crap airport......nothing to do there and tramps wondering around the terminals as they are seemingly allowed to camp there at night.

This
anyone flown Emirates? Usually their tickets are cheap (when bought in the UK) but not sure how costly they are in Korea. |

My vote goes for Emirates. I came to Korea with them and tomorrow I will fly into Heathrow with them via Dubai.
Good Points:
- they offer free 96hr stopovers in Dubai - this means you can break your connection by up to 4 days on either the out bound or in bound. Im not sure how long this offer is on for though.
- service is great
- food onboard is great (no kimchi in sight!!)
Bad Points:
- the flight times to Seoul arent great. there is only one departure from Dubai to Seoul at 03:00
- the flight from seoul to Dubai is at 23:55 |

Here are my thoughts:
Finnair: probably the shortest non-direct flight time
KLM: relatively short flight time, good connections to the regional airports but central video screens
Air France: You can pay an Air France fare but choose between Korean
Air or Air France for the Paris-Seoul sector...
Lufthansa: relatively cheap and has the advantage of being able to choose between two flights a day via eitherFrankfurt or Munich
Emirates, Qatar: You end up with two 8 hour flights...seems to take ages to get back but good service
Turkish Airlines: Have heard this can be cheap and the schedule is not too bad
JAL, ANA, Cathay etc: relatively cheap due to the massive detour required
There's no way it should cost the prices you mentioned unless you're inflexible with the dates...check direct with the airline website eg. klm.com |

Another thing to consider is that with the way airport tax is calculated you pay a fortune for long-haul flights compared to short-haul European ones. Therefore taxes will be significantly less out of LHR for a flight to Paris compared to a flight to Dubai... |

Cathay Pacific was (albeit last year) 700,000 but 20 hours. Lufthansa this year is 1m and 16h (via Frankfurt). |
