I saw an interview where Townshend said he the whole guitar breaking thing was an accident that got such a reaction from the crowd he decided to incorporate it into their show. Hardly a "symbol of smashing their bourgoise aspirations".

For what it is worth, I believe that Procul Harum, a great band by the way, was Canadian.

There are/were from London.

Wikipedia wrote:
Procol Harum are a British rock band, formed in the 1960s, who contributed to the development of progressive rock, and by extension, symphonic rock. Their best-known recording is their 1967 single "A Whiter Shade of Pale." Although noted for its classical influence, Procol Harum's music also embraces the blues and pop. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Procol_harum

Rush, though fantastic musicians, were a terrible band. In many ways, Muse are this generation's Rush.

Not to drag this further from the topic, but if you are discussing Canadian musicians from the 60's and 70's, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen should be the first mentions.
