Anyone know a Korean textbook with lots of conversation or roll-play activities?
I've been studying Korean for a while and my grammar and reading are up to intermediate level but my speaking and conversation are definitely beginner. The class I take is 80% listen to the teacher, 15% read from the book or board, and only 5% speaking. No conversation activities at all, no pair work like I do in English classes that I teach. It's not the teachers fault, it is the way the school is designed (Ganada Hakwon). The teacher must relentlessly cover one chapter of grammar points a day and that leaves no time for review, proficiency, activities, etc. We even sit in assigned seats! So different the way we learn to teach English. In the schools defense most of the students are Japanese and this style seems to be what they are looking for. They actually pick up the language much faster than me.
Does anyone know a Korean language book that has lots of activities for starting conversations that "activate" the grammar learned?
I have Korean friends, some of whom are good teachers and even some of them can't speak English at all. But my Korean conversations seem to all be based around what I did today, what I will do tomorrow ... I would like try some conversations activities from textbooks to better utilize the structures I have studied.

| I tried studying with that Ganada series and it never overlaps any of the lessons using previous material from the other chapters, well, other than vocabulary. I would recommend getting Sogang's student books and workbooks. Each chapter is about 13-15 pages long and gives you plenty of opportunity for listening and pair work. I basically do it with my girlfriend while she watches TV. It covers all areas of the grammar points as well. I bought it since I plan to enroll there at some point in the future. |
