This travel agent said I had to wait until the end of the month to book a ticket to Indonesia and it would cost 950000. Called the airline directly and the price was 630000 and I could book it right away. What a scam and what's with me being able to do her job better than her.

They've gotta make their money somehow, I guess. ha ha.

In fairness to travel agents, I've been able to get a few great deals from them that were near half of what the airline quoted me.

Sorta like recruiters... you never know!

I just went to Bali, Indonesia and it's quite stunning I must say. I gots time to kill so I'll bite on this one. They do hit you up for money coming in and out of the airpport so OP might feel a bit scammed, but developing countries, except Thailand and Malaysia, tend to charge U$ for entry visa and departure. Sales pitches will come your way boss man and all the kids will even beg for money in perfect English so you will feel scammed out of what could had been a positive cultural interaction. It's a fact, U$ makes today's oil powered world spin and you, boss man, is the walking ATM so you might feel a bit scammed each time you look at it. I'm being silly in a factual sense. I really had a good time in Bali despite these inconvenient situations and feelings surrounding money the trip presented me. To understand how you will be viewed by the locals. You will be respected as a successful person with high social status, but it will not be easy though if you are a go getter with good communication skills and an open mind, you will have an awesome time.

I found Expedia offering the best fares on Malaysian Airlines, but Air Asia is even much cheaper if you can get your credit or debit card to work on their site to allow E-ticket purchase in advance. I got good fares to Thailand a few times over the past several years from Korean travel agents such as Kangsan and Unique Travel. Now, I'm finding America sites like Expedia and Vayama offering the best fares.

I nominate Bali a true culinary arts capital of the world as the food is top notch quality for reasonable prices so you needn't feel scammed. In all seriousness, they can do Western food better than any Western restaurant and South Asian cuisine such as Nasi Goreng is among the best of Asian foods so you won't feel a bit scammed. The $8 nightly shows featuring a gamelan orchestra and beautiful women in sparkling gold outfits will also leave you feel unscammed as can be. :lol:They are true masters of the arts ranging from dance to music to painting to cooking and probably a whole lot more. Truly amazing. Trust me, you will not feel scammed on this one, but strong sales pitches are norm though it's better to talk to South Asian peoples than to put them on ignore like you have to with Cambodian. This is the most friendly and respectful part of Asia I'm talking about, but they do present you challenges that grow on you to forever change your perspective. Sure, money is the locals main ambition surrounding tourists, but they sure do a great job of it. Just don't accept any kind of guide or service that attaches to you in casual warm friendly spirit without negotiating the cost which will require you to broach the subject Mr. Boss Man. OK. I keep saying boss man and so do the locals. Get it? You must have initiative, be specific, and possess leadership skills to do this one or just go to Kuta to join the lost fish in the sea. Really, it's a fun cake walk in the park compared to Cambodia.
