Should be no surprise but KT is reporting new roadblocks by the gov't in their latest attempt to stall the iPhone from threatening their corrupt chaebols. It's sad, that they've managed to kill the hype and excitement...i know lots of people that have given up and gotten that crappy Blackberry.

Never again will i talk about the "technological advanced Korea". They're cavemen dressed in a tuxedo.

Here's something for you:

the iphone is a...

phone. It's a PHONE.

I seriously doubt it will be here before the 4th gen iPhone is available.

Just my hunch, but even if it does come out before then, there will be no point in tying yourself into a fat ass contract when it will be updated within months.

I'm gonna wait this one out.

The iPod Touch uses the same WiFi based location services as the iPhone. Why does the iPod Touch not need government clearance if this is, as the government claims, about national security?

It is becoming pretty clear that Samsung and LG have the government in their back pockets and are doing anything possible to block the iPhone from entering Korea.

I think it is time for governments around the world to start blocking Korean products from entering their countries. Let's see how Samsung and LG react to being blocked from selling their products in overseas markets. It might be fun to witness.

the iphone has a dedicated gps chip, while the ipod touch uses your internet connection to determine location.

i still think this thing is a big farce though. i would love for North America to ban Samsung and LG phones + tvs. koreans would go mental!

Like I said in another thread, I'll believe it when I see it sitting on the kiosk at the cell phone shops.

I recall saying that before and someone mocking me with an article that "PROVES" it will be here next month.

WHO HAS THE LAST LAUGH NOW??!?! MWAA HAHAHAHAH!

Both of my parents have one, many of my aunts and uncles also have one. They are certainly not fresh out of college or hipsters.

It is a revolutionary device. Some people get excited about gadgets, some don't. I don't think a single person mentioned how their happiness is hanging in the balance. You need to relax, this is the technology forum, people are talking about technology (and an article from the local newspaper).

The Korea Times article makes two things very clear:

1. The deal between Apple and Korea Telecom is all but done. At this point, both having to deal with the government pulling tricks like this out of its hat in an attempt to delay or prevent the iPhone's entrance to the market.

2. Yes, the iPhone has a dedicated GPS chip, but the article also says that one problem the government has is with the service (Skyhook Wireless) in the US that determines location via WiFi. This is the same service that works with the iPod Touch. The K government has not had a problem with data being sent to this service from iPod Touches, so why now with the iPhone? Only one answer: To block it from entering Korea.

If a phone were able to change my life as dramatically as I think you're trying to imply, my life must have sucked donkey balls.

It's a phone. I dont' need all the crap in it. I want my phone for calling people, sending texts, and occasionally taking a quick picture when my dica isn't handy.

I had an iphone in the US (still have it, but can't use it) and the 2 things I miss most are threaded SMS and having a qwerty keyboard. If I just had a phone with those features, I would be happy. Unfortunately, I bought the cheapest phone I could get when I got to Korea Sad

I had an iPhone in the US and use an iPod Touch here. It doesn't change your life (as another poster said, that would really imply your life was lacking), however it amplifies certain interests you have, mainly via Apps.

My girlfriend and I use iFitness at the gym. Its counts reps, work outs, weight loss, routines and logs it all and gives you a break down showing how effective you spend your time. It was $1.99 and has been worth every cent.

I use a Korea Guide app that's like a Lonely Planet lite, and has certainly been helpful picking out places to see or mountains to hike.

I manage my finances from Mint.com's app, spend far too much time on the Facebook app, and keep track of currency prices over days, weeks, or months so I can decide when I want to send money back to the U.S.

Also, I read the New York Times offline between breaks at school, check out TED.com lectures, and occasionally and practice my Korean

And I play far too many games on it on the subway up to and back from Seoul.

Does it make my life amazing? No, it's just a mini-computer, email reader, with some very awesome apps that sometimes distract me and other times help me get more out of my downtime.

I'd just like to be able to use it to make phone calls as well without using the Skype app. Plus a little GPS help would be nice when I find myself trying to figure out what part of the country I wound up in without busting out the old atlas.
