|
|
Hey,
Just got my 1st payslip today. There is W103500 deducted for pension and 58420 for insurance.. Firstly, I though it was just American (and maybe Canadian) that paid pension. Am I entitled to claim it back at the end of the year or when I leave Korea? Secondly, what is this Insurance payment and what does it cover? |

Yes, Irish are liable to pay pension here in Korea. You can claim it back when you leave the country or change jobs.
The insurance payment is your health insurance. Your school should provide you with a medical card, more of a booklet really, which you can use if you need to see a doctor. This makes it very cheap. If you need medical attention before you get the card you can just bring your ARC and they can find your insurance number with that. |

Actually, Irish can't claim it back. There was some sort of agreement last year I read about in the Irish Times, but I can't remember what it applied to. As far as I know, we can claim it at retirement age (65) unless there is a treaty between the Irish and Korean governments before that time. |

Do you know how it falls with the British? I've heard we're sod out of luck in claiming it back or having it put into British pension credits? Basically it equates to us not receiving a severance. |

The case with the British pension payments has had some changes recently. But I never got a clear version of what the changes meant. Needs some research. |

Indeed I've heard statements that the rules have changed, need to dig around the pension website. |

Damn, that's news to me.That only applies to the national pension fund, right? Uni teachers can still claim back for the private pension companies I hope. |
