Hello everyone,

Please help me out. I'm about to receive a job offer (Hagwon in Bundang) from a recruiter, and we have already discussed many of the "ins and outs" of the soon to be contract. A couple of the possible "outs" have me a bit concerned. What do you guys think?

1. No pension plan-"due to school being rather small and not franchised" (according to the recruiter). Bullsh&t or not? Is it mandatory for the school to match the teacher's 4.5% monthly contribution? Is neglecting to contribute legal on the employer's part?

2. Teacher does not receive a government insurance plan, but instead receives a private health insurance plan (50% paid by school)- -"due to school being rather small and not franchised" (according to the recruiter). Bullsh&t or not? Should I avoid private health insurance? Do private health insurance and0 pension plan work "hand in hand?"

Lastly, does anyone have past experiences working with Maple Recruiting?

Please pm me any info/feedback/advice.

Thanks in advance,

Sounds like bullshit to me.

Where are you from? Certain nationalities can get their pension contributions back at the end of the contract PLUS the employer's contributions.

It's amazing how some teachers revel in delight at how they aren't paying pension, when in reality they are LOSING money!

You're being set up to be 'ripped off'. Find a different recruiter(s) and a different job.

Tell the recruiter that he's full of it, and that you don't want to work for ANY "school being rather small and not franchised".

Bullshit or not or level of bullshit or why exactly it is bullshit --- stop immediately.

Find another recruiter and don't take this job.

Even in a healthy economy, you would avoid any place that wants you to accept conditions like this and a recruiter who is pushing such a postion. In a terrible economy, you should look on places like this as if they are infected with lepersy. Solid institutes are likely to be economically challenged in the coming months. Those on already weak footing will likely fold - just like in the late 1990s....

BULLSHIT

I have a small school and you only need 2 employees to get health care insurance.

They are trying to get out of the additional costs of Health insurance and tax, which will fall upon you when you get caught.

You talk to a labor lawyer and they'll tell you that if the company has fewer than 5 employees, they do not need to pay you severance pay, and that may also apply to pension plan (but not 100% on the pension). They can hire you as a "self-employed" person, and you would be responsible for providing your own pension payments and health insurance.

Anyways, for your first job, I'd avoid that kind of situation. Just a headache for newbies especially. Find a school that'll give you severance, pension, and cover 50% of your national medical insurance premiums. That's mandatory by law in most cases.
