So, I'm trying to get all my documents ready for a working visa in Korea. I made some phone calls today about getting a copy of my criminal background check and I had no idea it would be this complicated.
What does one exactly have to do in order to get his/her criminal background check in the U.S.? Do I get my fingerprints and send it to the FBI?
Also, is it true that one must get their documents notarized by an attorney (whose notary does not expire) rather than having someone else notarize them (in which there is an expiration date)? |

| You can just get a local check at the police dept and send to your secretary of state for an apostille. That should be it. |

Some recruiters advised I should get a report done on the state-level. I called the local police station and they told me they can only do county-level ones - it would say "City of Wherever" and I think they're asking for the "State of Wherever."
If I get a county check and get it apostilled from the secretary of state, it that acceptable? |

| What state do you live in? Im in Arizona and apparently we need an FBI check. I'm appalled at the incompetence I've run up against at the state level simply trying to prove that I'm not a thief, murderer, or pederast. |

I'm in Ohio. I called the local police dept., the Shariff's office, and the Ohio attorney general's office. They ALL told me different.
So, you would be getting your fingerprints, to send to the FBI and wait until they process it and have them send you the results? |

| You don't need to do the FBI. Just say you need a background check for work and they should give you one. Just to make sure to say that it needs to be notarized from their notary. Then send that to be apostilled. |
