Not particularly a big clubbing type of person myself but wondering what your favorite clubs are in Seoul and where?

Volume at the Crown Hotel is Itaewon is probably the best club in Korea right now. However, it's not the kind of place that you would want to go to on a weekly basis.

In terms of mid-size, reasonably priced clubs, Mansion is a newcomer to the scene in Hongdae and I was really, really impressed with the party they pulled off last weekend. Design, sound, lighting, crowd, drinks...they had it all together, even though the bar is WAY too small for the club and there was a lot of crowding.

I tend to steer clear of the Gangnam/Apgujeong clubs because they're overpriced and full of people who aren't there for good music as much as they're there to be seen. I will say this, though...the G/A clubs on average have a much, much, much better looking crowd. Good luck getting past the C-blocking locals and gyopos, though.

I had a terrible time at Answer in Apgujeong. That is the only "A list" type club I've been to in Korea. I'm all for wasting money but clubs like that don't really do it for me.

Edit: I guess Answer is in Cheongdam. I forgot since we walked all the way from Apgujeong station. Hell of a night...let me tell you.

Gangnam/apgujeong

Volume is great
Heaven is new...it's awesome
Eden, I personally don't like the music, but it's a great club
Anwser...decent

Club mass....good

M2...in all the guide books...rarely heard a peep about this club since I moved here...It's pretty old.

It's also been packed wall-to-wall every single weekend for over 5 years now. I don't think there's another club in town that can say the same. The crowd there is young, eclectic, vibrant, and really parties hard.

Answer is currently under renovation, and all the scheduled parties have been moved to Mansion in Hongdae, which is just down the road from M2. Definitely check it out. They have a facebook group up and running now.

Tell me about cover charges for these places.

I paid 30,000 won at Answer. I was pretty drunk when we got there so I didn't know if we were paying for some DJ or if that is a standard cover. Pretty ridiculous either way.

In my opinion it's just a much younger, "hipper" crowd there that tends to get a bit more wild than the primped and polished crowd south of the river. Think "girls who are more comfortable in Chuck-Ts instead of Manolos" and you're on the right track.

You're also more likely to meet groups of people from other countries, especially China and Japan. It is a bit of a landmark.

Cover is always 15-20, and the drinks are cheap compared to other joints.

Cover charges at the other clubs in Seoul usually vary between 20,000 and 50,000 a head, depending on who is playing that night. Just like any scene though, it's very easy to get comped just about anywhere if you know The Right People.

The places I listed? 30,000 won..

For a very special DJ, it can go as hell as 50,000 at some places...

Going to others places aside from gangnam will cost 10-20 generally....

M2 is now 15-20k for cover? Sweet, I could have swore it was more, but it's been over a year since I went...I'll check it out again...

They used to charge more for big names, but these days the bigger names are playing the above mentioned clubs. M2 usually has solid local guys playing week in/out.

What kind of music does M2 play?

been to mass, club double (bucheon, this club is amazing but too often empty) and the hive. They were quite cool.

are there any club nights that have good rock and roll, motown, 60's rock? i like dance music but i prefer dancing to this kind of thing. There has to be some place that plays this music? I havent found one yet

Depends on what you are looking for, and the area you are looking. I know Hongdae much better than Itaewon.

M2 plays dance/trance/techno. 20k last time i checked.
PLENTY of hiphop clubs that will get you in for free. plenty of girls and guys.
I had a good time at Spy bar in itaewon. lots of russians, but the music was good.
I refuse to pay more than 10k to get into a club these days. only time i will consider it is if i have a date and thats how im going to get some (spend a little bank).
could always ask some natives where is fun. maybe they know of a few gems we havnt discovered yet.

If over-paying for everything from entrance fees to drinks and socializing/networking with psuedo friends is your thing, then by all means hang out in Apkujung/Gangnam. I lived there for three years. It isn't that special.

Nothing anywhere in Seoul comes remotely close to the old Miami/Orlando scene back in the days, lol.

On that note, I don't club anymore so I most likely have no business posting here. Have fun, guys.
