I am living about an hour away from Seoul, and lately I have been hankering for a good gyro soulvaki. I need to find a place that serves this delicacy, I know Itaewon has a Greek place, but I was hoping for somewhere different.
thanks in advance.

There's a place in Hongdae called "Sandi & Drake" that serves up the best Greek fare I've found. There are two other Greek restaurants in Hongdae, but that one has by far the best Greek food I've had in Korea.

It's on a side street to the left of the main road that leads to the main gate of the university. I think Route 66 used to be directly across the little street it's located on. The building is painted like Greek houses on the islands - sky blue on white.

www.souvlaki.co.kr (looks like the website is down - maybe they went out of business or back to Greece) or call 02-334-6742. To get there, go to Hongik University Station, Line No. 2, Exit No. 5. Turn left from the subway exit and go straight until you reach the dead-end. Turn right and Sandy and Drak is on your right 40m down the street.

I haven't been to Sandi & Drak since last year, but I thought they closed and moved. I remember talking the owner and he said he was moving out of Korea. I haven't been to Hongdae in awhile so I definitely got to check it out. If he's still around, that's great, it's easily one of my favorite restaurants in Seoul.

There's a place near the main gate of Hongdae University around that small park area. It's on the second floor. I forgot the name of the place but it was pretty inexpensive and the food was pretty good.

I tried calling the number and they have never heard of the place, I guess it must have closed.

You probably don't want to waste your money on Greek Joy, the other restaurant mentioned above in this thread. That is, if you are familiar with good Greek food and you don't want to be severely disappointed.

There was another one in the hongdae area as well, can't remember the name right now - it was equally bad.

A lot of people think that the current Turkish kebab places all over Seoul are similar to Greek food, but they couldn't be any more wrong. The Gyro meat might be similar, but anyone that has actually tasted a real souvlaki marinated in lemon and olive oil, with a real greek (Horiatiki) salad, will know the difference. Also, Greek tzasiki sauce is waaaay better Razz

You are preaching to the choir FO, I am from Melbourne and we have some of the best Greek food in the world. I dislike people who assume that kebabs and soulvaki are the same, I put up with kebabs but I love soulvaki.
