hello fellas, first time poster, long time fan here....

I received a placement in the province of Gangwon and was just curious (especially from those in Gangwon) on how common it is to go over your standard TEACHING hours - i want and will work overtime hours. My whole point in going to Korea to teach is simply to save up LOTS of money. That being said is it also easy to pick up extra tutoring shifts, I know with some contracts it's illegal but my contract allows for it.

Can anyone share their experiences especially those in Gangwon?

Thanks

And therein lies the conundrum.

Do you have any desire to teach? If not, you may (probably, but I want a hint of optimism here) be a poor teacher, get fired or have a long, mediocre year and be home before you know it. Thankfully, it is a tough market right now, especially for those who see Korea as a cash cow; a culling of the herd.

But I digress; your OT will vary from job to job.

There are lots of rural schools in Gangwon that would love to get a teacher for after school classes or weekend classes - the issue is whether they have the budget for it. Tell your main school that you want OT and they'll see if they can farm you out.

As for privates - you can find those pretty much the same as you can find anything else. Ask around, post posters.

Good luck, welcome to Gangwon-do.

Let's see half of the schools in Gangwon are so poor the school provides free uniforms. Yep. Big money in privates there allright. I'm sure little Min-su's 84 year old grandmom wants her 12 year old grand-daughter being taught by some crazy white man at his apartment. And she has the Sejong's to back it up.
